Getting to know Sylwia Wielgosz

Disclaimer: Providers at Canino Psychotherapy focus on therapy services and do not prescribe medication, as they are not psychiatrists. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over a decade of experience working with adults. I hold a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the City University of New York, College of Staten Island, and a Bachelor's degree from St. John's University. Along with addressing symptoms of anxiety and depression, my work focuses on how trauma impacts our everyday decisions, and how we can better communicate, understand our emotions, and reframe harmful narratives. I am committed to assisting people of all backgrounds, including the LGBTQIAP+ community, disabled folks, neurodiverse individuals, and persons belonging to any other marginalized group, as I believe complex trauma is a major factor affecting our well-being. I continue to be the eternal student to ensure each of my clients has an individualized and eclectic treatment plan.

What should a new client know about working with you?

We will devise a plan to improve your quality of life, relationships, self-soothing, and accountability. The goal is for the work we do together to be effective. I believe therapeutic work is about developing understanding and new skill sets so that you reach a day in which you are using your individualized blueprint for living.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

It is my responsibility to utilize evidence-based therapeutic techniques, provide you with psychoeducation regarding mental health, validate and affirm you, help you find your power, and consistently address the tasks and goals we create together for your treatment plan.
