Psychologist

Self-care is not selfish; it is an essential part of progress and a growth mindset. Sometimes, getting ?unstuck' calls for the help of someone trusted and experienced. I needed to reach out for help after surviving a severe car fire in 1981, and I wanted to offer the same type of compassion and collaboration to help others. Life can be difficult and complex, and we all could use support along the way to better manage our hassles, hardships, or heartaches. In our work together, I will start by meeting you where you are and speaking your emotional language so we can craft a mutually agreeable therapy plan. Like tuning a radio dial, I will attune to your station so we are on the same wavelength. My goal is to help you get unstuck and move forward toward your goals. My approach Oftentimes, it is unclear how we got to this stuck place, and so it is unclear what could get us moving forward. My approach begins with creating a safe and supportive space to share how you got here and what progress means to you. Typically, it is not one thought, feeling, memory, or situation that becomes the challenge. Rather, patterns of personal (thoughts, feelings, memories), interpersonal relationships (family, peers, work), or life demands pile up until we no longer feel effective. The next part of my approach is to explore various therapy options?strategies, skills, and tools?so you can select the best match for you. Therapy is like walking down a path together; there are several pathways we could travel. You participate in selecting the direction and destination of this path. I can walk with you, but you will be the one who learns to walk your path with increased confidence and how to identify and utilize an expanded supportive peer network. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University, which informs my compassionate and collaborative approach to therapy.
