People do not experience anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, or major life changes in isolation from the rest of their lives. My work considers the larger picture, including relationships, culture, conflict, life circumstances, and, when relevant, legal stressors. I work with adults to better understand what they are experiencing, recognize patterns that may be affecting them, and determine how they want to move forward. My path to psychology began in law and conflict resolution, where I have helped adults navigate complex and prolonged conflict since 2008. In addition to my degrees in psychology, I hold a Juris Doctor, a conflict resolution certificate, and a BA in international relations with a minor in communication studies. This interdisciplinary background shapes how I understand people and their experiences through the overlapping lenses of psychology, law, communication, culture, relationships, and the circumstances surrounding difficult or high-stakes periods of life. My specialty training includes advanced doctoral coursework in cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, psychological assessment, addiction diagnosis and intervention, interpersonal neurobiology and attachment, and consulting. I have also completed focused training in suicide assessment, partner violence, child abuse, human sexuality, and aging and long-term care. My doctoral research explores how interpersonal neurobiology and attachment theory can inform conflict resolution, particularly in prolonged conflict and high-conflict relationships and disputes. I bring this combination of professional experience, interdisciplinary education, and psychological training to both therapy and evaluation while remaining attentive to the complexity and individuality of each person. My work also includes psychological testing and evaluation, including court-related concerns, with a particular interest in how psychological functioning, relationships, conflict, and legal circumstances can intersect.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is collaborative, thoughtful, and practical, with treatment shaped around your individual history, strengths, culture, relationships, needs, and goals. I draw from attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, cognitive-behavioral strategies, relational and trauma-focused approaches, and principles informed by conflict resolution. Some people benefit from structure and concrete tools, while others need more room to understand patterns, relationships, emotions, or earlier experiences. Often, the work involves a combination of both. I respect that you know your own life best. My role is to help you examine what is happening from different perspectives, recognize patterns that may be affecting you, build on your strengths, and make choices that feel genuinely your own.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For individual therapy, we begin with where you are and what has been weighing on you. Together, we make sense of the experiences, relationships, emotions, and patterns that may be shaping how you feel today. Some sessions may involve practical tools for coping, boundaries, communication, or emotional regulation; others may create space to understand something more deeply. Therapy is not about changing who you are. It is about helping you understand yourself more fully, recognize what you need, and feel more able to move through your life in a way that feels genuinely yours. When conflict has taken over a relationship, it can become difficult to hear one another without also hearing every past hurt, disappointment, or fear. Our work slows that cycle down. We look beyond who is right or wrong to understand what each person is trying to communicate, what happens when emotions rise, and what keeps the same disagreements returning. The goal is not to erase differences, but to help you communicate more honestly, understand one another more clearly, strengthen boundaries, repair what can be repaired, and make thoughtful decisions about the relationship you want. Psychological assessment often begins with a question, sometimes about symptoms, personality, emotional functioning, relationships, behavior, or an experience that has become difficult to understand. Whatever brings you to an evaluation, I want the process aligned with you as an individual. We begin by understanding the question and the person behind it. Depending on the purpose of the assessment, this may include conversation, relevant history and records, psychological testing, and other appropriate sources of information. Those pieces are then brought together to develop a clear and well-supported understanding of what the information means. My goal is for the evaluation to provide more than scores or labels. It should offer useful insight into the person and what may help clarify the path forward.
