Getting to know Tulip Mitchell

Hi there, I'm Tulip! My name is Tulip Mitchell, and I am a licensed Psychologist in California. I warmly welcome each new client and partner with them to develop a plan addressing their unique challenges. I believe that, as a therapist, I must first engage with the individual even if the issue involves family, couples, or other relationships. Typically, I use Motivational Interviewing as an introductory technique to put clients at ease while learning about the issues that bring them to therapy. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology, which has equipped me with a strong foundation to support my clients effectively. My approach I remind myself to accept clients as they see themselves and to be eclectic. While I am Cognitive-Behavioral in theory, I use techniques that effectively address clients’ issues in the shortest possible time. My focus I believe my best skills are in parenting, and I enjoy working with young teens (middle school) and young adults (college age). I also have extensive experience addressing challenges of aging. My communication style I am friendly without being too familiar and encourage clients to express themselves honestly. My journey to mental healthcare Since I can remember, I was curious about the motivation behind people’s behavior, asking questions and pestering my parents about their reasons for rules and rituals. When they were unsure, my curiosity grew. I asked other adults who were more indulgent and provided varied answers. This increased my curiosity, but there was no known profession in my rural Jamaican culture to accommodate my interests, so I put them on hold and pursued a regular education.
