Getting to know Ursula Saunders

Disclaimer: Providers at Canino Psychotherapy focus on therapy services and do not prescribe medication, as they are not psychiatrists. I am compassionate yet direct in my approach, remaining goal-oriented while addressing underlying sources of relationship and psychological discord. My practices encourage self-examination, personal responsibility, and open dialogue. Clients learn to identify toxic patterns and ideologies while developing the behavioral and emotional skills to build a more fulfilling future. In therapy, I recognize the family unit includes multiple individuals from different generations and life-cycle stages, each with their own unique personalities and needs. I assist families in transition and adapting to changes as well as couples navigating 21st-century love. By focusing on clients' strengths, I motivate them to harness their interpersonal skills and resilience to design the relationships they desire. I am partial to narrative, CBT, and EFT therapies but often combine methods to create a unique and personalized experience for each client. I hold a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mercy University and a Bachelor's degree from Wheaton College.

Ursula helped me deal with issues I had with my college roommate and helped me come to a solution that was best for me.

Super chill, great listener, good insight and suggestions on how to deal with certain issues. Will continue to see her.

I was looking for a CBT therapist who would be very proactive in therapy to push me forward. Unsula rit the bill perfectly.
Unsula helped me develop coping skills to get through a loss. I have seen her for several months and recommend her highly.
Great first visit. I am here to improve relationship with my parents to and to work on my personal growth.
Ursula is compassionate and insightful. She makes therapy a comfortable experience where I can freely express myself.

I would go back. The doctor was very young, inexperienced and does not have a recovery background.

Ursula is very easy to talk to and gives proactive feedback with actionable items that have really helped.

Ursula was able to help me get to the root of my problem. through kind, but directed questions.
Seems to be going ok. This is my 4th meeting so far and meetings are welcoming
Very quick, and felt great about the whole experience.

I see why the reviews are not the greatest. Instead of having me fill out any paperwork prior to the session I wasted the fist 10-15 min waiting for Ursula to send me the ppw. She was not paying attention at all and kept making strange faces as I was speaking which made me feel uncomfortable and everything I said she would give me very generic answers in return. Once I finally completed the forms I only had about 15-20 min left to explain what I had going on. I wanted to give her another chance despite how I felt but she canceled the next appointment without a reason which made me feel completely discouraged to even continue any therapy.

I actually chose this therapist because her reviews weren’t the greatest — and I’m glad I did. To me, that said she’s not here to baby anyone (ME) or sugarcoat things (WHICH I NEED). I wasn’t looking for someone to just nod along and tell me everything would be okay; I wanted a therapist who would help me get to the root of my issues, call me out when necessary, and guide me through the real work of healing. Everyone seeks therapy for different reasons, but for me, it was about facing my trauma, guilt, and ANGER ALSO the patterns that were holding me back. From day one, she’s been honest, direct, and deeply engaged — not just listening but actually applying her knowledge to help me work through things. I made the right choice for me, and so far, it’s been a great experience. Sometimes the “BAD” reviews are just a sign that someone’s doing the hard work — not the easy kind

Ursula rejected to see me as a patient after I explained I had borderline personality disorder and was dealing with self esteem issues. I appreciate her communicating this with me prior to extensive therapy with her, but never have I ever been rejected because of my diagnosis. Borderline personality disorder is the most stigmatized of all mental illness despite being the illness that experiences the most emotional agony according to research and studies. One would not reject one asking for help for cancer, or depression, or any other illness. So in hindsight was rather unprofessional and discriminatory. However, she did offer other alternatives or other psychotherapists, which was kindly appreciated.

Judgy. Poor communicator and very rude through text. We were very uncomfortable talking to her, and she was checking her phone and rolling her eyes during our session.

Just started but she seems like a good fit for me. She said to me "we will get through this" and that's where I feel I connected with her. Thank you Ursula.

My session today left me feeling unheard and uncomfortable. The therapist was insensitive to the needs of a certain vulnerable population and, in my opinion, reinforced stigmatization rather than providing support.
Verified patientVideo visit
Waited an hour and was never contacted, no communication and they will just ghost you when you call the office. Save your time and money.

My provider was superb!! Ursula, was a great listener and, didn't interrupt me. I'll recommend her to anyone with a mental crisis.
Verified patientVideo visit
Helpful recommendations. Therapist was patient in understanding my presenting problem. Also evidenced a sensitivity to underlying issues as well.

It was the most disappointing therapy session I ever had with anyone. It was my first time and there were lot of questionnaires to be answered. I am a soft spoken person she was making faces and hard time understanding mental distance with people and family members. She kept saying “you been depressed for 3 years and that’s a long time.. not good” how do you answer to that? Are counselors allowed to talk to the patients directly like that? Then she was like “let me show you, how you are speaking with flat voice”. It felt like she was mocking me and my personality. I felt so unsafe with her energy and the way she was making faces and high pitch voice. Something honestly didn’t expect from a mental health professional. We seek help for understanding, not to get judged for our situations.
Verified patientVideo visit
She was an amazing experience, but it felt more like I was talking to a friend rather than a license professional - I found myself asking her questions and talking about her life. That method may work for people that just someone to talk to freely, it just wasn’t for me.

I’ve seen several therapists over the last decade and this was the only one who made me cry in the intake session because I felt so ridiculous and silly. She told me I talked too fast and seemed to take pride in being very direct - which I see the value in - but given this was our first time ever speaking she was not warm at all and honestly made me feel 10x worse and self conscious. And this was just the intake. Very negative experience.
Verified patientVideo visit
Extremely patient with me despite sudden scheduling difficulties! Very straightforward and a good listener, which I appreciate. Easy to schedule with, reschedule with, and conveniently speak to for the sessions.
Verified patientVideo visit
I would not recommend this therapist and I'm not sure how she has so many reviews and an average of 4 something rating. I felt judged from the moment I started speaking to the point where it felt like I was just feeding her things to gossip about later. She jumped to conclusions about my relationship with people in my life ie. saying "X person is way too dependent on you" and when I disagreed (also this wasn't the point of what we were discussing), she said "well you just said XYZ which means she's too dependent on you." It felt very judgemental overall, uncomfortable and unprofessional in her responses. I feel bad if this is anybody else's first therapy experience, because it most definitely turned me off for a couple months and I'm finally ready to start looking for someone else again

Ursula has been an amazing support. Life changing after working with her just for a few months! Ursula has helped me go through a difficult time of non-communication with the family member. She was able to change my perspective on the issue and make positive changes. Ursula is caring, listening and advising the way that actually helps to solve the problem. I highly recommend working with her. I am so grateful!

Would recommend Ursula as a therapist!

This was my first visit to the practice and it was extremely positive end-to-end. Everyone was very kind and professional. I appreciated the thorough case and the education and referrals I received. I look forward to trusting Ty and Family Medicine with my care!!
Great! Thorough & friendly.
Overall, I'm satisfied. Ty was really friendly, professional, & knowledgeable. He talked me through my lab results & made helpful recommendations. I would recommend his services to others.
Super rude, jumped right into why I called and wa super judgmental. Also was told it would be virtual, however she just called me instead. Super impersonal and awful experience

Ursula’s sessions leave me thinking and inspire me to take action. I learned the importance of being accountable and not using excuses to justify lack of movement in my life. She is pragmatic and doesn’t sugar coat things but it works for me.
I needed a letter for my landlord so I can have my dog live with me. She was very understanding and quickly wrote me an Emotional Support Letter outlining why I have to have a dog to manage my anxiety.
Ursula has been an incredible reasource in managing my personal relationships and setting boundaries. A great experience all around.
I felt pretty judged. I ended the appointment feeling angry. After the appt, her office was supposed to follow up with me to make another appointment, never heard from them again. Which is fine by me, tbh.

I enjoyed my conversation with Ursula very much. It felt like I was talking to a friend and someone I was catching up with rather than someone new and cold and distant. She has a very welcoming demeanor. I can't wait for our next session!

Ursula offers a comprehensive and creative therapeutic experience. We did mindfulness exercises like meditation and tapping. She also gave me assignments like thought journals to help me learn to halt negative and catestrophic thinking. Her practices are effective and help me.
Rude and not clear enough. "You are all over the place". She ended early adnd did not answer my questions about who could help since she thought that I was "all over the place"

Ursula has been a motivation for me getting my life back on track. Her firm but understanding approach has pushed me out of my comfort zone to take back control of my life. I am pleased with the progress that I am making with Ursula’s assistance.
Verified patientVideo visit
It was my first session and I stayed on the call for a very short time maybe 7 min because I was quickly uncomfortable. She seemed a bit frantic as she was running late. Asked me direct questions immediately with no ease into the convo or introduction. She made facial expressions when I answered. She seemed distracted and unprepared for our session. Her phone also kept sliding off the table and hanging up on me. I had no sense of calm or ease.

Visits are pretty good. Ursula has been really flexible with scheduling. I appreciate her encouragement and patience. I’m feeling a lot bettter..
Ursula was a great therapist. It was only our first session however I really loved her insight to my situations as well as catching me and holding me accountable for things that require change and attention. I am looking forward to more sessions with Ursula as I begin to build on my history and patterns and work towards growth
Verified patientVideo visit
She only showed half of her face during the meeting. Had very judgemental looks towards my responses. Questions were too direct and not with a soft approach. Would not recommend if you genuinely need help.
