Getting to know Dr. Ye Du

*Virtual appointments in NC, TX and VA *In-person appointments in NC I am a board-certified psychiatrist with over 12 years of experience, specializing in both Psychotherapy and Clarity Comprehensive Assessments. I offer psychotherapy and psychotherapeutically-informed medication management. I am extensively trained in Psychodynamic/Insight-Oriented therapy, Supportive Psychotherapy, Mindfulness techniques and Couples Therapy. Additionally, I offer Clarity Comprehensive Assessments, an intensive, deep-dive diagnostic service designed for professionals, executives, and clients with complex cases seeking a strategic roadmap for their mental health and wellness (see my website for details; please call for more information before booking) I earned both my MD and MPH from Harvard University, and completed my Psychiatry residency at Columbia University. I previously served as the Psychiatry Clerkship Director and Director of Psychotherapy Education at Baylor College of Medicine and the Expert Psychiatry Consultant for J. Flowers Health Institute, where I specialized in whole-person wellness optimization. I am passionate about helping individuals and couples improve their relationships, self-esteem, careers, and sense of who they are. I strive to develop a deep understanding of each individual person and will work together with you to find the your path to wellness. I am an Out of Network provider, but I will provide receipts for you to submit to your insurance for any reimbursement you might receive.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Psychotherapy: I generally take 2-3 sessions to get a good understanding of your current struggles, needs, and hopes for change. I then collaboratively discuss with you a path forward. I think of our work together as a shared journey in which we both bring our areas of expertise: you with your knowledge of what it's like to be you, and me with my experience. Although I primarily take an insight-oriented approach, I have gradually incorporated pearls of wisdom from CBT, DBT, ACT, and mindfulness practices into my work. I prioritize seeing and hearing you in the ways you long to be seen and heard, and staying attuned to where you are in the present moment. Clarity Comprehensive Assessments: My approach to these assessments differ from standard psychiatric intakes in the following ways: 1. In Depth: I begin with a 2 hour deep-dive interview with you. I also review prior records, rating scales, and collateral information (upon request). 2. Efficient: I aim to complete the entire process in 1-2 weeks time. This degree of evaluation often takes months to complete. 3. Unbiased: I only provide the assessment in these cases and do not intend to continue treatment unless otherwise consented for, so I don't have an incentive to sell you my ongoing services. 4. Holistic: I go beyond providing just a diagnosis and med recommendations. I provide insights and recommendations for physical health, psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, and other wellness approaches. 5. Thorough: After I've completed my assessment, I meet with you for 1 hour to discuss my findings/recommendations and answer your questions. I then provide a formal written report that documents your history, formulation, and personalized care plan.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I see individuals as complex, dynamic beings that are intricately woven into their environment. I take into account the whole picture of you and your surrounding world when developing my formulations. I try to appreciate the full story of how you have adapted to the challenges you were met with throughout your life, and how you have grown to become the person you are today. In developing a diagnosis, I pay attention to factors such as trauma, culture, family of origin, life experiences, physical illness, education, relationship to your body, and temperament. My goal with each session is to be right next to you in our discovery process. Whether you find yourself in a state of rage, despair, elation, or boredom, it's paramount that I fully understand you and can see the world from your perspective. I also keep in my mind the bigger picture of your history and values, which then informs my responses. I try my best to sense what you are needing and wanting in the moment from me.
