Getting to know Yiwen Fan

With an early passion in psychology, I moved from China to the US when I was 17. Currently, I'm fully licensed as a counselor in NY, NJ and FL. Since graduating from Columbia University in 2013, I have worked as a community therapist and gained extensive experiences working with college students and Asian immigrants. My work style is similar to a free flowing conversation, but not without a focus. The focus is the client's authentic self. I work with people to help them be as real with themselves as possible. From this honesty and curiosity to one's core self, self love gets to develop and grow. In 2020, I received systematic training from Dr. Mariela Shibley in mental health evaluations for immigration cases. I can provide these evaluations in Mandarin. In our work, I may use a variety of modalities, including Gestalt Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic Therapy to best fit your needs. We believe in tailoring our methods to fit your unique needs, ensuring a supportive and effective therapeutic experience. Your journey towards healing and self-discovery begins here.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During initial sessions, I usually encourage the client to talk about the most present issues and feelings. Then we will follow these cues and delve deep into the hidden struggles and yearnings. With my support, the client will gradually experience the joy of self compassion and how it leads to true inner strengths.
