“I came to therapy with Yun after a breakup, completely convinced I was the problem. Replaying every conversation, every text, every “what if”? That was me. From the start, Yun gave me space to vent without ever making me feel like too much. Eventually, she helped me challenge the story that everything was my fault and reminded me that feeling isn’t weakness, it’s healing. The work hasn’t always been easy (she keeps it real), but it’s been worth every single session.”

“Yun has a very thoughtful and intentional approach to her practice with patients. She really takes the time to get to know people outside of their traumas and challenges and I love how she also highlights individual strengths and moments of growth. I appreciate her emphasis on holistic wellness with attention paid to multicultural components of identity, as this makes room for a patient to be as open as they can be. Not only is Yun nonjudgmental, compassionate, and warm, but she is also open to critique and applies this feedback to better herself as a professional and a human being!”

Getting to know Yun Mei

Yun Mei, M.S.Ed., MHC-LP, is a Mental Health Counselor with a Master of Science in Education in Mental Health Counseling from Fordham University and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Sociology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Life can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to carry everything by yourself. Ms. Mei provides a warm, supportive space where clients can feel seen, heard, and valued just as they are. She understands how heavy emotional burdens can become when they’re carried alone, and she works to ensure no one feels isolated in their healing. Her approach prioritizes safety and connection so clients can open up at their own pace. Ms. Mei works with individuals facing a wide range of concerns, including complex trauma, low self-esteem, relationship struggles, personality disorders, and first-generation multicultural experiences. Drawing from her own identity as a Chinese American woman, Ms. Mei brings cultural sensitivity and lived understanding to her work, creating a space that honors each client’s unique background and story. She recognizes that identity, family expectations, and cultural narratives shape how people move through the world, and she integrates that awareness into the therapeutic process. Her goal is to create a space where clients don’t have to explain or justify parts of themselves that are often misunderstood. Ms. Mei approaches every client with empathy, unconditional positive regard, and a deep respect for their journey. Ms. Mei uses an integrative therapeutic approach, blending psychodynamic, person-centered, and cognitive-behavioral theories. She collaborates with clients to help them explore what’s holding them back, identify meaningful goals, and tap into their own resilience and inner strength. Ms. Mei's mission is to help clients feel safe, supported, and empowered as they move toward healing and personal growth, knowing they are not navigating the process alone.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I value honesty, nuance, and depth. I’m direct, but never careless; I say what needs to be said, not what’s easiest to hear. My goal is to help you understand yourself, your relationships, and your decisions with more accuracy, not to overwhelm you with jargon or abstractions. If you’re willing to be reflective and open, I’ll meet you with that same level of commitment. I work best with people who want to understand the “why” behind their experiences, not just the “what.”

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is collaborative and personalized. We start by building a clear understanding of your experiences, patterns, and goals together. From there, we identify the dynamics shaping your situation and co-create strategies that feel realistic and supportive for you. I offer direct insight and structure, and you bring your lived experience and intuition — and we refine things step by step as you grow. It’s a partnership focused on clarity, consistency, and sustainable change.

This was my first time, doing anything psychotherapy related, and I so I went in with no expectations. I was happy to know she listened a lot, and I even asked her at the end her method of helping if she just gives advice off of what she knows or if she allows me to just speak. She said she asks the right questions so I am able to pull problem and then solve as I go.
