Welcome! Thank you for visiting my page! I am glad you are here! Life isn't always as easy as we would like it to be. You may be at a point where you are tired of feeling stuck. Now is the time to to try something new. Therapy can be daunting, but thankfully I can tell you after almost a decade of experience that there is hope! Change can happen. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist based in Colorado (Mountain Time zone). Since the creation of PsyPact (the interjurisdictional practice of psychology), I am able to practice across state lines. I graduated with my PhD in Clinical Psych in 2016 and have worked in private practices, primary care centers, the Veteran's Administration (VA), and a major county hospital. Getting to work with diverse people has shown me what the medical world is really like, not just for patients but for staff, too. My specialty areas include ADHD, anxiety, mild depression, medical diagnoses, stress management, and finding life purpose. I enjoy working with everyone, and especially people who are employed in the medical field, college students, teens, adults, women who are pregnant or postpartum, and athletes. I received specialized training in postpartum mental health conditions and after working on an OBGYN floor, I have a special place in my heart for families struggling with infertility, pregnancy loss, postpartum mental health and serious medical conditions/diagnoses. And, after working in medical settings for so long, I can definitely understand the medical world. If you work in the medical field, and are struggling, feel free to reach out to me. In my free time, I enjoy being with my family & dogs and you'll typically find me hiking or somewhere outdoors.

What should a new client know about working with you?

What you should know about working with me: Clients have described me as being authentic, empathic, and validating. I try my best to take folks where they are at (meaning I don't want to push anyone into talking or trying a therapeutic technique if they aren't ready for it). Alternatively, I also want to make sure clients are setting goals and are reaching those goals. If we are at a stand still, I will likely bring this into our discussion to figure out how we can get back on track. I think it's important to use evidenced based treatments in therapy (since we know they work and symptoms improve). At the first or second session, I will summarize a few therapies to see if any of them resonate with the client. I'm flexible and sometimes we try a therapy (like CBT) for a few sessions and the client decides it isn't for them. No problem, let's try something else! I tailor treatment because it needs to be effective and useful for you. Otherwise, there is no point to therapy. I've had a few patients tell me their therapist talked at them the entire hour. Just so you know, that isn't me. This is your time to talk. And, this brings me to another important research based topic: therapist fit is very important. I am not always a good fit with folks, and that is okay. Again, it's more important that you are able to work with someone to reach your goals. I have made mistakes with clients in the past, and it's been most helpful when clients bring up those mistakes in session and we are able to work through it. The therapeutic relationship can be extremely powerful and we can accomplish so much! I may have you complete session rating scales the first few sessions so I am able to learn more about your preferences and ways I can be most helpful.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is called an intake. This is like a clinical interview where I collect information about your background (e.g., family, childhood history, work, substance use, cultural or religious components, strengths, mental health history, etc). Ideally, during this session, we would also talk about what your goals are and what you want to get out of therapy (sometimes, there is so much history to discuss, we resume the goal discussion for session #2). After we talk about goals, we will work together to identify the best modality for you (e.g., CBT, ACT, DBT, etc). We collaborate to identify useful homework so that you can move towards your goals and see improvements. Sometimes, I have folks who are just looking to talk - and that's okay, too! Most importantly, I want you to feel like you are reaching your goals. One thing we know is that research shows venting is not always useful. Having a solution focused approach is often the best way to reduce stress and frustration.
