About Akimyo Russell
Akimyo Russell is a Family Nurse Practitioner, board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse Credentialing Center and licensed to provide healthcare to patients of all ages in Maryland and Virginia. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from North Carolina Central University in 2001 and her Master’s Degree in Family Nursing from Marymount University in 2006. She is passionate about wellness and promotes living well both physically and mentally when delivering care to her patients.
As a certified Functional Medicine provider and Whole Health Coach, Akimyo strongly believes in caring for the whole person, allowing her to effectively partner with clients to help them reach their health goals. She has extensive experience in complex allergic and immunologic disorders, medical weight loss, neurology with a concentration in multiple sclerosis, pediatric neurosurgery, and primary care. Additionally, she has served as the Medical Director of the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center. Her true desire is to get to the root of her patients’ medical conditions and support them in achieving wellness.
In her spare time, she enjoys fishing, gardening, traveling, skiing, and spending time with her husband and three children.

Akimyo has an excellent rapport with her patients. She is responsive and thorough in her communications. It’s clear that she truly cares about her patients. I tend to ask a lot of questions and she takes her to time answer every single one and even follows up with additional information and resources. Health and healing are clearly her callings. My initial visit was by video. Since that video, we have talked at least twice a week. If I have any concerning, I can call her. I am a diabetic and Kim showed much interest in helping me to reach my goal, which is to lose weight and eat healthier. We discussed label reading, how to prepare meals, portion of meals, what snacks best to eat, when to eat snacks and what foods to avoid.
