About Dr. Alan Margolis

You can feel confident knowing that I stay on top of the latest developments in my field and am board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. For over 38 years, I have cared for thousands of patients suffering from glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes, eye injuries, and more. As a child, I was diagnosed with nearsightedness after seeing an eye doctor. Receiving quality care for my condition truly intrigued me. My interest in neuroscience grew as I got older, leading me to earn a Master's in Physiology from Georgetown University. I then completed my medical degree at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center. I chose ophthalmology because it allows me to help patients improve their lives through better vision. I have lived and practiced ophthalmology in Colorado since 1991. This state holds some of my most cherished memories. I enjoy giving back to a community that has given me so much in friendship and support. I am actively involved in the Cancer League of Colorado, a charity that greatly benefits those in need. My hobbies include digital photography and gourmet cooking. I also enjoy hiking with my family, friends, and golden retrievers. My passions include dance music and long-distance bicycling.

They got me in on short notice but total visit took approximately two hours. Had to wait in the exam room quite a while.

The doctor was extremely dismissive, did not inform me as to why they wanted to potentially move to an out of pocket surgical option for an eye infection that he was treating with abx. i explained that i was hesitant to treat with long term abx and he said “it’s that or steroid injections which could make you go blind” followed by the out of pocket surgical recommendation. On top of this he briefly mentioned that I have the markings of Glaucoma (i am 33 y/o) and when i requested clarity he said that “we are treating the acute issue first” referencing the eye infection. i was quite shaken up by his rudeness and cavalier use of the word “blind” in a setting with a patient who is quite obviously anxious and confused.
Friendly staffs, the staff and the doctor took their time to explain each procedure, Christine from the front office is the best front office staff that I ever met. She knows her job requirements and very knowledgeable on her job duties. Dr. Margolis, enjoy taking the time to talk to me as a patient. I recommend them for anyone that needs visions care. 5 STAR.

The doctor was very knowledgeable about what was going on with my eyes and set up a next week visit to go over what I need to do. They took time to look at what was go on with my eyes and why I was having the problem with them. Next week we will go over about I need to do to fix the problem that I having.

I had a very frustrating experience with this office. I submitted an appointment request last night for a 9:30am appointment this morning. When I arrived, the office was completely dark, the door was locked, and no one was there. I tried calling, but no one answered. I waited for 35 minutes, and still, no one arrived. When I finally got through to someone on the phone, they told me the doctor had been stuck in a blizzard and had supposedly called patients the night before to reschedule morning appointments—but I never received a call. There was zero communication, and I wasted my time waiting for an appointment that was never going to happen. I would not recommend this office. Their lack of communication and professionalism left me without an appointment and completely frustrated.
Great experience. Amazing front office staff.

Great.

The technician is the person who basically gave me my entire eye exam, answered all my questions, and gave me my new prescription. All the doctor did was tug at my eyes to make sure they were ok. The doctor seemed like he was in a hurry and didn’t want to be seeing me. I was actually very uncomfortable to where I wanted someone else in the room to break the awkward silence. Then when I was done and going to pay no one knew what my balance was and if I needed to pay more or less or if my exam was even covered by insurance. I would not recommend due to the Doctor and front desk. The only good thing was how nice and helpful the technician who treated me was.

Great experience and super friendly communication. They were understaffed but I was still taken care of immediately. Dr. Margolis and his assistant was not only a great listener but accommodating as well. Highly recommend and will be returning for further care

Had to be seen the same day because of a piece of metal in my eye. They made sure I was seen when lots of others told me no! Thank you !!

Absolutely adored the staff especially the front desk gal and another gal who helped with the screenings. The ophthalmologist was a little rude and impatient. Was getting frustrated with me while he was quite literally sticking something in my eye. Was sighing and acting like it was obnoxious. unprofessional bed side manner and not understanding.
When first arriving the front desk reps were so friendly. Kat who was the doctors assistant was very friendly and walked through all the eye exams we were doing. Meeting Dr. Alan was different. He was not friendly when walking in, walked straight to the computer without asking how I was doing or getting to know who I was as a new patient. I started to ask questions and he kept saying give me a minute. Then when he was ready he started to explain things that I never heard of about my eyes, then he pivoted explaining that they do cosmetic work and said I should think about getting my eyes lifted because they are going to sag when I get older something like that. He was more concerned about his cosmetic business then my eyes when I had more questions. It was a total turn off and I felt very uncomfortable. Then proceeding to leave and go to the front desk, he was completely rude to his assistant for asking a question. I just need my contacts then I won't be going back.

I was asked on an first-time patient info gathering doc if anything was bothering me. I listed dry-eye. When I met dr, Margolis right after filling that out, he asked if I had any problems. I started to explain that my eyes get scratchy and he cut me off mid sentence and said that was a medical visit not for discussion on this visit. I was taken aback at how rude he was in cutting me off. He suggested I try some very expensive eye drops and come back. When I went back he suggested that I try a craze expensive procedure to maybe fix dry eye. I asked if it was cosmetic, he said no. I asked was it approved by FDA, he said no with a long explanation of why it wasn't. I asked why insurance wouldn't cover it, he said because it's considered cosmetic. What??? I wondered why he lied in the first place. The whole visit was so shady! So much more but no room to explain. He ended up charging me a lot of money even though I had insurance. I don't recommend this Dr!

Front office staff was thoroughly confused by insurance that I had. Took 20 minutes to realize that they were inputting the wrong birth date. Doctor rescheduled multiple times and technicians were in a rush to accommodate him.
Dr.Margolis is very knowledgeable of what he does. He is very good with answering all the questions I had and addressed my concern by thoroughly diagnosing. Office Staff is very friendly too. I will definitely recommend Dr.Margolis to my friends and family.
I have been coming to Dr. Margolis for years. He is always patient and kind and I love his team. Everyone is friendly and knows me by name! I would definitely recommend Dr. Margolis for anyone needing an eye doctor.
Everyone is very nice especially Dr. Margolis. They took their time answering all my questions and I feel much better having come in to see the eye doctor. I never realized how serious my dry eye problem was and now I can take the right steps to treat it.
The staff was non-typical... but in an excellent, very competent manner. Dr. Margolis is very knowledgeable... exactly what I would hope for in a doctor.
