About Dr. Amit Bhandarkar

Dr. Amit Bhandarkar is a fellowship-trained Orthopedic Spine Surgeon. He completed his medical education at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, earning his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. He then completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College. Dr. Bhandarkar further refined his expertise through fellowships at New York University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, specializing in Spine Surgery. Dr. Bhandarkar evaluates and treats a wide variety of spine ailments consistent with his comprehensive spine training. Pain is the most important symptom he addresses daily. He is one of the few spine surgeons who has integrated pain management into his spine surgical practice. An empathetic and compassionate physician, he listens closely to his patients to help focus his efforts on locating the source of their pain. He confirms those pain generators with objective tests and formulates a minimally invasive plan that is maximally effective at keeping patients pain-free and functional for as long as possible. Dr. Bhandarkar also calls himself an optimally invasive surgeon, meaning that if the burden of pathology is such that smaller procedures cannot fully address the problem, he may perform more complex surgeries. However, instead of immediately opting for complex surgeries, he may graduate the patient through less invasive options to keep their pain and function optimal. Dr. Bhandarkar has an excellent track record and is one of the few spine surgeons experienced in cutting-edge techniques such as endoscopic and minimally invasive spine surgeries, interventional pain management, and neuromodulation. A keen researcher, he has many international publications and presentations to his credit. He is an ardent believer in evidence-based medicine and practices only those techniques whose results are reproducible and proven effective.
