Amr Kouchouk, M.D., was born in Cairo, Egypt, and moved to the U.S. at a young age. He grew up in McLean, Virginia – a suburb of Washington, D.C. He attended McLean High School, where he played soccer, was captain of the track team, and went on to run Division I track at the University of Virginia. He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Economics. Dr. Kouchouk earned his Doctor of Medicine from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine (MCV) in Richmond, VA. He completed his internship at Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, DE, followed by an ophthalmology residency at George Washington University in Washington, DC, where he was chosen as Chief Resident. He holds the distinction of performing the highest number of cataract surgeries by any resident in the program’s history. He then completed a one-year elective fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh with Dr. Deepinder Dhaliwal, MD LAc, who is widely regarded as one of the top cornea and refractive surgeons. Dr. Kouchouk is the only fellow at the University of Pittsburgh to become certified in Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery—one of the newest refractive surgeries available—and was again among the highest in total surgeries performed in the program’s history, a testament to his surgical skills. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), and the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS). Dr. Kouchouk enjoys providing a variety of surgical services, including cataract surgery (including laser-assisted cataract surgery with the Catalys femtosecond laser) with the full spectrum of lens implants.
