About Dr. Andrew Shyu
Dr. Andrew Shyu (pronounced shoe) grew up in San Jose, California. He did his undergraduate degree at UCLA and went to medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Temple University. He is fluent in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.
Andrew enjoys watching sports, and playing soccer and tennis. He enjoys hiking with his wife, and teaching new tricks to his pet corgi, Doug.
Dr. Andrew Shyu is honored to take over the practice from Dr. Richard Sherry, who is well-known and recognized in the community. The doctor is young, arrogant, and seemed not to care about my issues. Answers to my concerns were stated with irritation. The cyst on my eyelid he said was just cosmetic. No care that I have to face the world with a growth on my eye. His urgency was trying to get me to book a full exam that day. His impatience was obvious. I mentioned that through diet I had reversed my diabetes and his response was one of dismissal. Immediately he returned to push a full dilation exam. I will not return.

My husband and I are long time patients of the Brandywine Eye Center, and have always been very pleased with the personable, but always professional, service that we get from Dr. Shyu and his staff. Dr. Shyu recently performed cataract surgery on both my eyes, and the results have changed my life - for the better. I always felt that Dr. Shyu was treating "me", as a whole, not just my "eyes". During the procedures, I felt confident in his abilities. I feel he is very honest and open so it's easy to talk with him about my eyes and what's important to me. He really listens. I will tell you how important he is to me and my husband. We moved in 2020 and because of the distance, we both now have all new doctors in our new area, except for our eyes. It is worth the trip to see Dr. Shyu and I feel fortunate to have him looking out for us. Highly recommend.

Awesome. Dr Shyu and staff were excellent from the welcoming greeting at the front desk throughout the entire visit. I arrived and was seen quickly and kept moving throughout the testing. Dr. Shyu was extremely knowledgeable and very up to date on new tests and procedures…and he answered all my questions. Great Doc!

I saw Dr. Shyu for my annual check up. Everything went really well. I find Dr Shyu to have the right combination of personableness and technical excellence. His staff all are very pleasant and competent. It seems like a happy office and that happiness is reflected in the positive experience.
