About Dr. Barbara Shortle
Barbara E. Shortle, MD, PhD is a native New Yorker. After graduating from Vassar College she did her graduate work at Rockefeller University and Columbia University, from which she obtained a PhD in chemistry. After graduating from Albert Einstein College of Medicine she completed a residency at St. Luke's/Roosevelt Hospital in OB/GYN, and a fellowship at Columbia/Presbyterian Medical Center in Reproductive Endocrinology.
Dr. Shortle shared a position of Director of Reproductive Endocrinology at Long Island College Hospital with the distinguished Dr. Michelle P. Warren for several years. She has also worked at the Center for Menopause at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center-East Side with Dr. Warren. She is a published author in the field, with the book Clinical Aspects of Cervical Incompetence among her extensive list of works.
Dr. Shortle has been affiliated with Presbyterian Hospital, Long Island College Hospital, Beth Israel North, Baptist Medical Center and Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. Shortle is an amazing doctor. Many moons ago, I came to her with pregnancy issues, two children later and her care and skills exceed expectations. If you want a competent and compassionate doctor, she is it.

I wouldn’t recommend this place. Dr. Barbara was very nice however, no one was in the office at the time of my appointment so I waited outside for someone arrive. They arrived 15 mins after my appointment time. I didn’t get seen until about 40mins after my scheduled time. The overall cleanliness of the office was really off putting and I kept feeling like I had to keep a close eye on what she was doing to make sure she was using sterile tools (she did). She was very nice but everything was just very scattered and felt really disorganized. Additionally, the other doctor was yelling at someone over the phone while I was waiting. Not a great experience overall.

Unsterile speculum, only one glove during pelvic exam, ripped up exam chair (surely less clean?) - generally not confident office or exam were up to standards/code. Dr. Shortle was kind.

Dr Shortle saw me on a Friday at 5pm for an urgent visit when my regular doctor would not see me. She took her time and did not rush the appointment. She was thorough in her examination and took the time to speak with me in her office before AND after the physical examination. I appreciate her attention to patient care & bedside manner.

This place was like a time warp into the 80's. The office and it's practices were way below standards. I only stayed because it was an emergency and a Friday. A ripped up exam chair, makeshift biohazard disposal and being asked to pee into a drinking cup. The doctor attempted to do a pap on me with a metal speculum that was not in a sterile pack and was in a draw with a bunch of other speculums. I requested that she use a plastic one on me. She also only had one glove on for this. I requested that she wear two. There was no medical assistant. The doctor performed vitals and everything. They used paper requisitions and even gave paper prescriptions instead of e-scribe. The doctor seems like a nice lady but she moved very slow, couldn't hear well and seemed to even have trouble picking up the swabs to do the cultures. I would never go here again.

Dr. Shortle is no doubt friendly and kind however, i have not had anything to worry about until my annual check up came back with some abnormal results. I got a letter in the mail which i thought was odd considering this is 2019. Went back for a follow up and waited more than 10 days for the results. I was expecting a phone call regarding these test results as it was something that warranted a phone call. I called to follow up only to get “the doctor sent you a letter” which i never got...again... it’s 2019 and this office doesn’t provide medical records on a patients portal of any sort like many other doctors do. When i called again to get further explanation on the results i didnt get a direct answer from this doctor just to come in and get more procedures. I requested to have my medical records faxed which they requested a hand written note to have released and it would take 7-10 business days for review
Of my file before sending it over to me. Which is obsurd as these are my medical records. Overall i wished this doctor and the office itself had more sensitivity to its patients and keep up with the times as it is the digital age. Would not recommend if you want a positive gynecological experience.

The office was very dirty and the doctor did not use proper hygiene. The tools that she used for exam was not steril and she did not wash her hands. I had to get a prescription and I had no choice but staying because of my condition otherwise I would leave . I will never go back nor recommend her to anyone. I do hope someone send inspection for proper practice in that office.

Not only did she constantly talk over me when I wanted to tell her the actual reason I was there other then to have an annual check up, she also completely bashed my method of birth control (LARC) deeming it as a trend. In addition, I've had a pap smear/ exam done by other providers and she was extremely rough and incapable of easing my stress when it came to her roughness.

I got what i needed from my visit, but dont think i would return back. The doctors office was a complete mess, papers everywhere. Not sure how she can keep track of patients in that manor, and she was just a bit weird.

Very nice , calm , gentle and professional. Was able to get AM appointment within 1 day! Other gynekologists were 2 -3 weeks wait, even in off hours.

I did not have a good experience with Dr. Shortle's office. She did not use a computer to take notes, but wrote my medical history on the inside of a manila folder. When she told me I needed to urinate in a cup, she handed me a Dixie cup and left he room. She returned a minute later as I stood confused and said sorry that's not sanitary let me get you something else. I asked her questions as she was doing my exam and did not answer any of them.

She was horrible. Seemed to have no idea what she was doing, made gross jokes, had a dirty office, and LOST my test samples so the whole thing was a waste of time. I don't usually write reviews but I really do not recommend seeing this woman - she made an already uncomfortable experience really disgusting and overall miserable.

The doctor did not take time to explain tests/test results. I was extremely uncomfortable and upset when I left the office, when I should have felt at ease. The entire staff seemed annoyed, in general... not pleasant.

Cluttered & dirty office- yelled my pap results for basically the entire office to hear--- did some things I've never experienced in a regular pap that would not be appropriate to post. :-/
Also her office isn't capable of just taking credit card info for payments- have to write a check and mail like its 1990.
