About Dr. Brenda Burden

Brenda Burden, O.D., received her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry in 1990, where she also earned her Bachelor of Science in Physiological Optics. She completed an externship in ocular disease at Omni Eye Care Center in Atlanta, Georgia, before pursuing a postgraduate residency specializing in ocular disease and geriatric hospital-based care at the Birmingham School of Optometry and the Tuscaloosa/Birmingham Veterans Affairs Hospitals in Alabama. Dr. Burden's favorite aspect of being an optometric physician is the opportunity to not only help patients see better but also to improve their overall well-being. She believes ocular health can be an early indicator of undetected systemic health issues and is dedicated to clear communication and patient education to develop the best care plan alongside their healthcare team. Dr. Burden relocated to Washington in 1995, where a temporary move became a permanent home. She is married to Dr. Ken Mayemura, who primarily practices at Magnolia Eye Care in Seattle. In her free time, she enjoys art, music, and spending time outdoors.
