Getting to know Dr. Charles I Silverstein
I have been a licensed psychologist since 1978 and have worked in Oregon, North Dakota, California, and Hawaii. My experience spans mental health centers, state hospitals, county welfare and child protective service agencies, the prison system, hospital emergency rooms, and a private practice I have maintained since 1981. I am well-versed in the mental health and social issues affecting individuals involved in the criminal justice system and their families. I have testified as an expert witness on numerous occasions in child custody, child welfare, and mentally disordered offender court proceedings. Additionally, I retired from Santa Rosa Junior College after many years of teaching.
I earned my PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Oregon, a Master's in Psychology from San José State University, and a Bachelor's degree from California State University, Stanislaus.
I have been married for 35 years; we have a son and a beautiful 2-year-old granddaughter. I live in Northern California and Hawaii, where I hope to eventually retire.
What should a new client know about working with you?
My goal would be to first familiarize myself with the client and their issues and help clarify the psychological issues that have may have initiated the client's decision to seek help. Once clarified, I would educate the client about the pertinent issues and work on developing solutions that will assist them in dealing with their issues.

More information on payments and coverage
Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
