Dr. Chike Okafor, MD, CAQSM
Dr. Chike Okafor is a fellowship-trained Sports Medicine physician and founder of Vertex Sports Medicine in Manhattan, New York. He specializes in non-operative orthopedic care, sports injuries, musculoskeletal ultrasound, ultrasound-guided procedures, regenerative medicine, weight management, and direct primary care.
Dr. Okafor completed his Sports Medicine fellowship at Duke University, where he worked with athletes across multiple sports, including football, basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball. He completed his Family Medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center and earned his medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
His approach to care focuses on understanding each patient’s goals and developing personalized treatment plans tailored to their lifestyle and activity level. By combining evidence-based medicine, movement assessments, and advanced diagnostic tools such as musculoskeletal ultrasound, he works to identify the root cause of pain and dysfunction rather than simply treating symptoms.

Worst medical experience. I arrived on time for a physical and to discuss a concern, waited past my scheduled slot, and saw Dr.?Okafor, who seemed rushed. No real physical and no guidance on my current issue other than wait two weeks.
Two weeks later I returned for follow-up, but Dr.?Okafor was absent; Shayla reviewed my results. She was friendly yet hurried, prescribing a medication likely not covered by insurance and another she seemed reluctant to give but called “mandatory.” An extra blood draw was needed because the lab missed some tests. She left before I could clarify what to do if insurance rejected a prescription.
My insurance denied the medication, and the pharmacy awaited a new script. I expected a quick resolution, but nothing happened. I waited for Shayla’s promised callback on Monday, only to receive a hostile call from Diana, who yelled, dismissed my questions, and insisted telehealth was no longer offered.
