He went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from the University of Missouri at Columbia School of Medicine. There he garnered multiple scholarships and awards for academic achievement, including third-year acceptance into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the John A. Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Following residency, Dr. Bettis stayed on to complete an additional fellowship in glaucoma and advanced anterior segment surgery before being recruited to the University of Iowa to introduce Minimally-invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). At Iowa, he was recognized as a “Top Doctor” in Ophthalmology and received the Faculty Teaching Award for dedication to excellence in medical student education. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles. Dr. Bettis enjoys using his relationship with patients to develop an individualized treatment plan utilizing the latest evidence-based technology. Dr. Bettis also has a passion for medical outreach, which has carried him around the globe and into enduring partnerships in Haiti and Honduras. Dr. Bettis is excited to be back in Kansas City, caring for patients in his hometown. In his spare time, you can find him enjoying the outdoors with his wife, 2 children, and their miniature golden doodle Rusty.
