About Dr. Douglas Wallin

Dr. Wallin is a Fellowship-trained optometrist who puts patients at ease through jokes and storytelling. Part of Dr. Thompson’s team since its inception, Dr. Wallin loves educating patients and conducting research that improves patient care. Early in his career, Dr. Wallin helmed his own private practice in Marshall, MN where he specialized in refractive and cataract clinical care and contact lenses. He then joined Vance Thompson Vision as the clinical director of refractive surgery in 1995. Drawn to the beauty of South Dakota’s Black Hills, Dr. Wallin moved west for a brief time and then returned to Vance Thompson Vision in Sioux Falls. He has served the optometry field since 1991. Personal & Hobbies Doug and wife, Missy, have two grown children. As a family, they love camping, hiking, kayaking, and golfing. Pursuing health through nutrition and exercise is also a core value for the Wallins. Doug is also an avid collector of vintage furnishings from the 1950s and ‘60s. Doug takes particular satisfaction in restoring the treasures he finds back to their original glory.
