About Dr. Edward Elder
Edward Carl Elder, OD, is from San Antonio and graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in 1977. He participated in several sports and was an All-City Defensive Back. He has been inducted into the Oliver Wendell Holmes Hall of Honor. Dr. Elder earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Houston in 1981 and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1985. He is actively involved in the community and serves on several boards. Dr. Elder is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Texas Optometric Association, and the Bexar County District Optometric Society. He is married to Bonnie Prosser Elder, chief counsel at Via Metropolitan Transit Authority. They have one daughter, Marissa, who is a first-year student at UT Austin. In his spare time, Dr. Elder enjoys spending time with family and friends. His hobbies include snow and water skiing, wakeboarding, basketball, and golf. We are very proud to announce that Dr. Edward Carl Elder will be receiving the Pillar of Caring award from the 20th Northside Education Foundation. Dr. Elder has continually exceeded all expectations in patient care and community involvement. We are happy and proud to be part of Dr. Elder's private practice. I was very satisfied with my appointment. Explain to him how difficult it was to get my prescription, correct, but he did. I’ve had my eyes tested in the past four months and no one has come close to getting my prescription correct as he did. The sales staff was also very helpful with helping me pick out the right glasses for me. An awesome team! ?

For starters, they have a nice shaded parking lot. I filled out npp & was called for the initial screening almost too quickly- I was enjoying looking at their selection of glasses! Office staff were courteous, friendly, conscientious. Dr. Elder was kind and calm. He asked appropriate questions and seemed to actually listen to my answers. He made me feel comfortable and not pressured or rushed. He took the time to answer my questions and explain what I was curious about.
I was especially impressed by the way the staff responded when I said I wanted to get my glasses prescription filled elsewhere. At no point was there any resistance to this idea. I wasn’t treated if I was less valued as a patient.
Overall very pleasant experience. I would recommend Dr. Elder and this office to anyone!

Dr. Elder is compassionate, a great listener, and truly goes out of his way to help you. I adore this doctor. Been wearing contacts for 20 years, but no one has come close to the providing the service I received here. Exams typically take a while to for me because my vision is horrible, but Dr. Elder completed it quicker than ever and with such precision. I'm not sure I've ever seen so clear as I do now. Definitely, recommended!
