Dr. Ellen Zupkus, PhD

Psychologist
NJ
I am a licensed psychologist in New Jersey with more than 45 years of experience helping adolescents and adults navigate life's challenges and achieve greater emotional well-being. Throughout my career, I have worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment programs, juvenile justice systems, universities, and telehealth. These experiences have given me a broad perspective on mental health and a deep appreciation for each person's unique journey. I specialize in helping individuals manage anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. I have particular expertise working with people facing divorce, blended family and step-parenting issues, caregiving responsibilities, LGBTQ+ concerns, and women's issues related to aging and menopause. I also work with individuals who are struggling to adjust to changes in their personal, family, or professional lives. My approach is warm, supportive, and goal-oriented. I integrate evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Trauma-Focused Therapy, while maintaining a strengths-based perspective that helps clients build resilience and create meaningful change. I believe therapy should provide both a safe space for exploration and practical tools that help you move forward with confidence. Before entering private practice, I served as a Clinician Administrator with Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care and the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission, where I developed and supervised mental health programs. I have also held leadership roles as a Clinical Director, Principal Clinical Psychologist, and consulting psychologist, and have taught psychology and human development courses at several universities throughout my career.
