About Dr. Emily Brophy
Philosophy of Care
My philosophy of care is simple: treat patients as I would want to be treated or as I would want my family to be treated. To me, this means being honest, open, always providing evidence-based medicine, and helping patients become active members in their healthcare. I also bring a unique interest in integrative medicine—the use of safe complementary or alternative medicine to support traditional patient care. In all circumstances, my focus is to recommend only evidence-based use of alternative treatments in the very best interests of my patients.
Why I Entered Medicine
I love the career continuity and satisfaction that being an obstetrician/gynecologist provides. It allows me to develop long-term relationships with women from adolescence through the childbearing years, to menopause and beyond. Through medicine, and particularly in ob/gyn, I can provide primary care services, family planning, and be the doctor who delivers your baby or performs gynecologic surgery if needed. Offering minimally invasive surgery to reduce hospital time is a deeply satisfying experience I can provide to patients. It means a lot to me that I can be the same physician who cares for you and the female members of your family for most of your lives.
Education and Training
I earned my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and a Master’s in Physiology, Biophysics, Complementary and Alternative Medicine from Georgetown University. I received my Doctor of Medicine from Pennsylvania State University and completed my residency in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
Personal Interests
My greatest passion is families—my own family and having the privilege of helping others start to build theirs.
