About Dr. Erik Haselhorst

Erik Haselhorst, O.D., received his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2022 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Genetics from Texas A&M University in 2006. Dr. Haselhorst specializes in geriatrics and diabetic eye care. While in elementary school, the mother of one of Dr. Haselhorst's friends was a practicing O.D. Observing her patient care skills, the diversity of patients' eye care needs, and the challenges this profession could present on any day inspired him to become an optometrist. Now that Dr. Haselhorst is an optometrist, he enjoys educating patients about their vision and ocular health, helping them understand what he sees during an eye exam and the best ways to maximize the health of their sight.

This was a very good experience. It was a very thorough exam, but not an extremely long process. I was given the option of having a scan that's not normally covered by insurance, or having my eyes dilated (no extra charge). All of my concerns were addressed and I was given eyeshades for my dilated pupils. I assumed that was normal, but my husband mentioned his eye doctor did NOT do that, so I thought I would mention it, since it is very helpful to have shades for the drive home (or back to work)! Everyone was very nice.

I had a great and easy experience getting an eye exam to update my prescription. I was appreciative that the staff communicated well about insurance information. During the exam, the doctor explained everything in a helpful way and ensured I understood. It was honestly one of the most efficient and easiest eye exams I’ve ever had as someone who has worn glasses since I was 8 years old. I’ve been looking for a new optometrist since moving to the Austin area and will definitely be returning next time I need an updated prescription for glasses or contacts.

Various medical equipment was used to measure different things about my eyes, like eye pressure, scanning in lieu of dilating the eyes, color blindness, etc. The eye tech who performed these tests was competent, knowledgeable and very nice. Dr. Haselhorst then reviewed all of these results and examined my eyes further. He explained everything and answered all my questions. He was very thorough, didn't rush through anything and took all the time needed to inform me of the results. He took the time to sort through all of my former glasses to determine which were for driving, for house use, etc. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the exam and all he did to make sure he understood the status of my eyes and what action needed to be taken. He provided me with the new prescriptions I needed. He truly cares about the patient. I highly recommend him.

I've been a long time client of Dr. Weaver and was sad to see him retire, but he deserved to get on with his life. I was really not looking forward to this appointment as I didn't know who I would see. I was very happy with the care I received from Dr. Haselhorst and his demeanor is much like Dr. Weaver's.
Everyone here was very friendly and knowledgeable. My eye exam was thorough and Dr. Haselhorst explained everything to me in such a way that I could easily understand — no crazy doctor jargon. The staff explained how our insurance coverage would work so that we were able to get the best deal possible. Our glasses were done quickly and we are really pleased with the final product. The office is clean and quiet. The whole experience was hassle free.

The staff was really great, they were very helpful and friendly. This is the first eye doctor I've been to in Austin that actually feels like a real doctor's office as opposed to a store. I can't really think of anything you could be doing differently, everything was good!

Very efficient service! Definitely feels like things are firing on all cylinders. Dr. H was very thorough but also moved quickly and gave me confidence he was aware of my needs and health.
Everyone was very friendly to me. The reception/checkout staff, the technician who took the scans of my eyes and got my information filled out before the exam, and the doctor all had kind demeanors.
I had a great experience with customer service and my eye care from the check-in desk to the eye exam. They were also very accommodating and fit me into their schedule quickly!
Dr. Haselhorst was able to explain things in an easy to understand manner. Although I'm sad that Dr. Weaver left Far West Optical, I'm glad Dr. Haselhorst joined your team. He is an ideal replacement.
