Life can be hard. I’m here to see if I can help! Welcome. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share with you a bit about myself, my training, and how I might work to help you accomplish your goals. Psychotherapy is a difficult and rewarding experience. Whether you work with me or decide to check out a different provider, I am glad you are taking these first steps toward health, healing, and self-compassion. My name is Dr. Gayle Robbins. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and received my Doctorate in Psychology from the University of North Dakota. My work experience is extensive. I believe psychotherapy is a shared process of emotional healing and skill development. Through a partnership with my clients, I strive to make myself obsolete as soon as possible by empowering those with whom I work to learn effective ways to experience a meaningful and fulfilling life. My approach to psychotherapy is based on a foundation of well-established interventions: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotion Focused (EF) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), with a strong emphasis on mindfulness and compassion-based interventions. That is a lot of jargon! In practical terms, I focus on developing a relationship of mutual trust and respect with my clients. Once developed, we explore the interconnections of the mind, body, brain and social environment to better understand the self. We then focus on living in the present, experiencing compassion for yourself and others, and talk about the process of change and how to manage the vulnerability that occurs as we change. Sometimes, the focus is on learning how to live gracefully in the midst of adversity. At each step, I work with clients to accept themselves, learn to respond rather than react, and find contentment in times of uncertainty.
