About Dr. Gene Zdenek

Dr. Zdenek has been practicing medicine since 1981. He earned both his Doctor of Medicine and completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Rush University. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Doc Z has held the positions of Chief of Staff, Chairman of Emergency Room Services, and Chairman of the Board at a Southern California hospital. He went on to become the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Valley Multi-Specialty Surgery Center and Zdenek Eye Institute in central San Fernando Valley, California.
Dr. Zdenek is a VISX Certified Physician and mentors other ophthalmologists in several surgical procedures. He has taught numerous laser corrective surgeries and advanced laser and refractive techniques. Dr. Zdenek has made significant contributions to the field of ophthalmology by completing award-winning research and developing revolutionary instruments and procedures. He has performed numerous corneal transplants and corneal surgery procedures to restore vision not only in adults but also in children and infants.
In addition, Doc Z has published numerous articles, abstracts, and book chapters on all types of ophthalmic surgery. He has been invited to lecture extensively both in the United States and abroad. In research, he is one of the few ophthalmologists in the United States who has successfully performed the Scleral Spacing Procedure, which shows promise in eliminating the need for reading glasses after the age of forty.
Doc Z has been an expert medical-legal witness for over 25 years. He is uniquely gifted at communicating in both legal and layman's terminology.

Unfortunately I didn't have a good experience. I had to wait an hour to be seen by the Doctor. It appeared that this office double booked patients as other people came in after me and were being seen ahead of me. I sat in a room and waited and waited. The Doctor was very nice, however, it's not acceptable to make people wait that long. My time is valuable too! In addition, the front desk did NOT call in my prescription to the pharmacy as promised. After standing in a long line at CVS they said nothing was ordered by the provider. I then had to go to another long line to try to submit the copy of the prescription they gave me they, however, they needed the original prescription. It's now Saturday and I have to wait until Monday to get a prescription I need. The front desk person promised she would submit prescription for me and didn't which caused me a lot of inconvenience. This is forcing me to wait over the weekend for medication I need. Not impressed!

Amazing office... from the staff to the doctor. Very thorough, very friendly, didn’t feel rushed. Everything from the tests to billing was explained. I would highly, highly recommend.

The staff was very rude and unhelpful in my time of pain post surgery. The doctor was ok but the receptionist ladies were very unkind. I would never step foot in this location due to the staff.

I have previously seen three other ophthalmologist, and we were not able to pinpoint my eye health condition condition. Dr. Z and his staff were so nice and I do believe that we have come to find the root of the problem. At the time of the appointment I had not met my deductible, but Dr. Z staff checked with insurance company and told me how much I have left on my deductible before proceeding with treatment so I wasn’t taken by surprise at the end of my appointment. I would highly recommend Dr. Z.?
