About Dr. Huong-Trinh Nguyen
Huong-Trinh Nguyen, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1997 and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Southwestern University. She began practicing optometry in 1997 and is a licensed Therapeutic Optometrist and an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist.
After moving to Boerne in 1999 with her optometrist husband, Dr. Joseph Arrieta, she worked as a relief doctor at various optometric offices before joining a commercial practice in San Antonio. In 2002, she accepted a contract position at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) and the Fort Sam Optometry Clinic, where she provided full-scope optometric care to retirees, dependents, and active-duty service members for 11 years.
Dr. Nguyen was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1975. She shares that her own history of strabismus since age 4, along with surgery at 18, influenced her decision to become an optometrist. She especially values the time spent getting to know her patients and building strong relationships that help her address their individual eye care needs.
Outside the office, Dr. Nguyen enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, watching movies, and doing arts and crafts projects. She also volunteers at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church through various ministries.

Dr Nguyen successfully found the right prism correction for double vision and also the best possible single vision prescription given the blurring effect of a cataract. She showed me the image of the dark cataract on the retinal scan.

It was the first time in years that I have received such a complete eye exam. Dr. Nguyen did such an amazing job of explaining everything. I will be recommending her to everyone I know! Best experience with any doctor since moving to Boerne 6 years ago. I’m grateful to have found such a well trained and compassionate eye doctor.

I always feel very comfortable with Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Arrieta, and trust them implicitly. Dr. Nguyen took great care to explain everything to me and I felt that the examination was very thorough.

Dr. Nguyen is amazing, and very informative. I really enjoy my visits with her. She always makes me feel less anxious, and more at ease than other doctors I've seen. The lady who helped me with my glasses did the opposite. She is also the one that messed my husband's glasses up when I brought them in for a new screw.

Disappointed that I wasn’t directed to the appropriate type of appointment. I was asked to schedule a follow up appointment for a macular degeneration screening 6 months after my last screening. When I called in for the appointment I assumed they would look at my records and know to schedule accordingly. Instead I was given a regular eye exam and charged for a prescription that I didn’t need since I had just gotten new glasses in the last 3 months.

Physician was welcoming,confident,and very knowledgeable! The front office personnel were immediately ready to assist With completion of intake forms and history. At all times staff was friendly,thorough,and accommodating. I left their office very gratified and confident.
