About Dr. Jacalyn Ely
Dr. Jacalyn R. Ely earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where she also completed her Bachelor of Science degree. She is passionate about family vision care and specializes in low vision and vision rehabilitation. Dr. Ely works with patients managing visual impairments caused by eye diseases, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, and concussions. She is also certified in the treatment and management of ocular diseases.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Ely has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus, where she taught low vision and contact lens care to ophthalmology residents. She is an active member of the Maryland Optometric Association (MOA), the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), and the American Optometric Association (AOA), where she serves as the Maryland state affiliate chairperson for the Vision Rehabilitation Committee.

I recently accompanied my son to this practice and found the visit to be a mixed experience. The provider was knowledgeable and thorough, and we appreciated her clinical expertise in addressing our concerns. However, for a first-time visit, her bedside manner felt distant and not as warm or engaging as we would have preferred, particularly for a patient-facing interaction. Overall, we value the quality of care provided, but a more personable approach would greatly enhance the experience.

As a new patient, everyone within the practice met all my expectations. Extremely friendly Dr. Eloy was thorough and asked many questions. She explained to me various options to improve my vision. All the reviews I read were on point to to what I was looking for with a new OD.

This Doctor is BRILLIANT ~I have worn glasses and contacts since middle school but recently developed some serious eye issues and I'm seeing an Opthamologist for that needed a really good Optometrist to prescribe a new pair of glasses and lenses. I was able to get high end designer frames from her office and new lenses to try. The entire staff is LOVELY from front desk to technician to frame department. I am so glad I found her!

Dr. Jacalyn Ely was incredibly pleasant and informative about the services available during a routine eye exam. However, she did not appear to be well-versed in HIPAA policy, as she intentionally showed me retinal images of another patient—including personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI)—in an attempt to persuade me to consent to a paid service that I previously denied multiple times. While she removed the images immediately after I expressed concern, the incident left me wary of the practice’s ability to safeguard patients’ sensitive information.
