About Dr. Joel H. McGahen

Joel McGahen, O.D. earned his Doctor of Optometry and Bachelor of Science degrees from Salus University (formerly the Pennsylvania College of Optometry) in 1986, following his bachelor's degree in Biology from The Pennsylvania State University in 1981. Since 1987, he has been providing comprehensive family vision care to patients of all ages in Franklin County. Dr. McGahen offers a wide range of medical eye care services, including the management of eye emergencies, glaucoma, and comprehensive diabetic care. He is particularly passionate about assisting Low Vision patients in maintaining their lifestyles by helping them achieve functional vision. In addition to his professional endeavors, Dr. McGahen has participated in numerous mission trips to Romania, Alaska, and the Dominican Republic. He was recently recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for delivering high-quality, high-value care and improving patient experiences. Outside of the office, Dr. McGahen enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also takes pleasure in raising his chickens, cows, and four dogs. Together with his wife, Kelly, Dr. McGahen recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. They are proud parents of four children and have a wonderful grandson named Noah.
