About Dr. Joo Won Kaser
Dr. Joo Won Kaser immigrated to Shawnee, Kansas from Seoul, South Korea at age 8. After graduating from the University of Kansas with a Human Biology degree, she moved to Chicago to attend the Illinois College of Optometry.
She graduated magna cum laude with her Doctorate of Optometry in 2006. Upon graduation, she received several awards, including William Feinbloom Low Vision Award, which is presented to a student who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in the clinical care of low vision patients.
Dr. Kaser continued her passion in helping patients with low vision by completing a low vision and ocular disease residency at the Illinois Eye Institute in 2007. After working many years at an ophthalmology clinic where she co-managed surgical cases, provided comprehensive eye exams, and fitted specialty contact lenses, she returned to the academic setting at the Illinois Eye Institute to work with optometry students as a clinical attending doctor until 2019. Her other clinical experiences include working in private optometry practices and providing eye exams to underprivileged children at Chicago Public Schools. Since moving back to Overland Park, Kansas in 2021, Dr. Kaser volunteered many hours helping the homeless population at the Kansas City Free Eye Clinic.
Dr. Kaser’s interest in eye care includes working with patients of all ages, diagnosing and treating ocular disease, fitting contact lenses, and finding solutions to relieve eye discomfort related to dry eyes and binocular vision disorder. Her passion in working with families is to form relationships, watch kids grow and providing excellent eye care so that kids do not have eye related problem contributing to learning disorders.
In her free time, Dr. Kaser loves traveling with her husband and three children. She loves photography, fitness, and reading. Believing it’s never too late to learn, she started learning how to play the piano and spends time practicing.
