About Dr. Joseph Hsu
Dr. Hsu accepts all PPOs, most vision plans, Medicare, Medi-Medi, and HMOs with authorization. Dr. Hsu is an astute and innovative clinician, surgeon, and researcher. He matriculated at MIT, conducting extensive research at MIT and Harvard in recombinant DNA biotechnology, and graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. After graduation, he worked for Biogen, Inc., continuing research on Interferon for cancer treatment. He earned his M.D. from Georgetown University School of Medicine, completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University, and finished his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern. Dr. Hsu completed fellowships at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute and the Doheny Eye Institute at USC under Peter McDonnell, specializing in cornea, external eye diseases, and refractive laser surgery. He has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, served as principal investigator and co-investigator in eye research, received research grants from the National Eye Institute, and delivered talks nationally. Dr. Hsu is an assistant clinical professor at USC. Dr. Hsu has treated thousands of patients with diabetic eye diseases, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, cornea transplants, and LASIK. He employs the latest technology to provide advanced care. He has performed thousands of surgeries, including cataract surgery with premium and toric lenses, glaucoma laser treatments and surgeries, diabetic laser procedures, and cornea transplants. He is the only fellowship-trained LASIK surgeon in the Downey area and has performed LASIK on many local doctors. As a cornea specialist, he was among the first eye surgeons in the U.S. to use Amniograft transplant for ocular surface reconstruction over 12 years ago and has refined the technique to reduce pterygium recurrence. I wouldn't recommend anyone to this office!!!! The doctor was out of this world Rude to me! Absolutely the worst doctor I've ever met.
This man came into the room with a dirty lab coat on and began to ask me about my visit. I answered all of his questions and he reached into his dirty pocket and pulled out this little bottle of solution (I assume). He took the top off the bottle and it caught my attention because the bottle was so dirty!!!!!! I was thinking to myself what is that?? Before I knew it this man had the nerve to put his sweaty hand on my head and push it back to attempt to put this unknown product in my eye. Yes you read right!!!! This doctor didn't tell me what he was going to do or what the name of the product was or why it was even necessary to put it in my eye!! I immediately stopped him from touching my head and asked him what was the product and to please communicate with me on what he was doing. This man response to me was in an aggressive tone "Oh you never had a eye exam done before!?" So after hearing that ignorant response I immediately got up and left the room! I demanded a full refund for this complete waste of time and couldn't wait to get some time to tell anyone who is seeking help for their vision problem about my unacceptable experience.

A doctor I look forward to visiting again. This was my first visit and plan to keep him as my eye specialist. Very pleasant visit and very little waiting. I didn't even get a chance to fill out the initial forms in the office before being called to go in to see him. Very professional.
