About Dr. Joseph Lao

Dr. Joseph Lao was born and raised in Las Vegas. He is a Bishop Gorman High School alum and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In May 2013, Dr. Lao graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree from Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry.
He completed internships at various locations, including the special populations and vision therapy-focused Alderwood Vision Care Therapy Center (WA), Ernest Childers Veteran Affairs Outpatient Clinic (OK), The Villages V.A. Hospital (FL), and the Lyons/East Orange V.A. Outpatient Hospital (NJ).
Dr. Lao has participated in multiple community vision projects such as Angels for Sight, Lion’s Club vision screenings, CareNOW L.A., and the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) mission trip to villages in Peru.
Upon graduation, he was presented with the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) Award for Excellence in Vision Therapy at Western University. He conducts vision therapy and binocular vision evaluations, including technology that analyzes eye movements while reading.
Vision therapy may alleviate struggles and enhance visual abilities for:
- Learning-related vision issues
- Poor binocular coordination or eye teaming
- Convergence insufficiency
- Amblyopia (often referred to as "lazy eye")
- Stress-related vision issues (eyestrain, headaches at near or computer distance, and some incidents of motion sickness)
- Traumatic brain issues, stroke, head injury, and special populations
- Sports vision development

I booked my appointment on the Optic Gallery website using this app. When I arrived there was no record of my appointment, they did not have the information I provided, and basically told me to bad I don’t have an appointment and they could not fit me in. I verified with the app I was at the correct office, and reception checked for evidence I had an appointment and told me they don’t even use this app anymore. I showed her how I scheduled the appointment on the website, showed her both the text confirmation and the email and she just shrugged. I reiterated my displeasure with this situation and told her this is no way to run a business. It was not her fault by any means, but her dismissing attitude really was uncalled for. Although I have been a patient of Optic Gallery for several years, and like Dr. Lao, I will be looking for a new provider.

Horrible customer service, they had never checked online bookings so they were not prepared for me to show up, they figured they could fit me in could just be a half hour ish wait, when I went to sit down they said, sorry but you have to wait outside. I aaid no problem would they mind of I took one of the extra chairs outside, no sir! Really I couldn't even use a chair?? Awful!!

Dr. Lao and medical assistant Osvaldo were great. They were thorough and explained what they were doing and why throughout the exam. Dr. Lao took some time after the exam to answer my questions as well. Front office staff was also very helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend and will be back!

I got so many reminder even a email with directions if it wasn't so many reminders and helping hands I probably would have cancelled so happy I made it I highly recommend this location.

Dr. Lao was awesome! He took care of what I needed in my first visit here from an eye exam to a contacts fitting with quality recommendations. The office staff was superb as well with signing me in, completing a portion of the eye exam, and ordering me a new pair of glasses with special lenses that compliment my lifestyle. The wait wasn't long, and I was out of there in less than 45 minutes. A stellar staff with an aesthetically pleasing, clean office warrants a tremendous recommendation!

Been going to optic gallery for 3 years now. Zach started seeing Dr. Lao in July 2015, for vision therapy sessions, and goes back every year for his annual checkup. I have also started going myself. He prides himself in seeing how Zach is doing, how his vision has improved, how the therapy has helped him and to work with Zach to keep it that way. If I ever need to take him for followup sessions, or any vision needs I definitely will be going here! I don't live closest to this location, but its worth the drive to know hes getting the attention needed. Definitely worth it!
