About Dr. Joseph Schwerdtfeger

Dr. Schwerdtfeger (Dr. Joe to our patients) is a life long native of Johnson County. He opened his practice at Overland Park Eye Center in 1994 after many years of practicing in Kansas City, MO. He attended the University of Kansas for undergraduate work. In 1986, he graduated with a Doctorate in Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL. He also maintains several certificates in LASIK consultation, contact fitting, dry eye syndrome and other medical eye care. He is a current member of both the Kansas Optometric Association (KOA) and the American Optometric Association (AOA). In his free time, Dr. Joe enjoys spending time with his wife Susan and their three children; Tyler, Scott, and Megan; as well as their dog Maddy. Most Saturdays you can find him coaching one of his kid’s teams or on a soccer field or basketball game cheering them on. He is also an avid sports fan and enjoys catching games with friends. In addition, Dr. Joe enjoys traveling and skiing with his family and friends.
