About Dr. Joseph Thomas
Dr. Thomas is a highly skilled, board certified and fellowship trained ophthalmologist who specializes in advanced cataract surgery and laser vision correction. He is committed to helping most patients achieve a life free of glasses or contacts. He is a native of Northeast Ohio and the son of an internist who is also an alumnus of Case Western Reserve University Medical School. Dr. Thomas credits much of his interactive patient skills to observing his father who always felt being a physician was a privileged position in which one was able to make a significant impact on a patient’s life.
Dr. Thomas completed his ophthalmology residency and fellowship in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He was a faculty member of the Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospitals in Cleveland where he served as Director of Refractive Surgery for six years.
Dr. Thomas is fellowship trained in cornea, external diseases and refractive surgery of the eye and has received extensive training in LASIK/PRK. He is certified on all of the latest laser surgery equipment and the various possible treatments. He has performed over 80,000 laser vision correction procedures since 1996.
He previously served in the Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospitals of Cleveland where he taught ophthalmology residents the clinical and surgical skills required for the practice of ophthalmology. He has practiced in the Cleveland area since 1996.
He is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1999 and became recertified by the board in 2009. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Cleveland Ophthalmology Society and the Ohio State Medical Association.

This practice is so obviously not affiliated with any hospital system. You don’t feel like you’re just another number. You can make an appointment without waiting months on end. Dr Thomas takes the time to listen to you , he has a great bedside manner and is an Incredible doctor . His staff s always kind and considerate. I would never go anywhere else .

Dr. Thomas took time to explain my issue, and welcomed and answered all questions I had. The doctor did not try to rush in and out like so many contemporary doctors often do now.

I always have a wonderful visit here at Thomas Eye Care. Dr. Thomas, as well as the entire staff are so professional and personable. They take such good care of me and my family. I drive an hour to get here and I wouldn't go anywhere else.

A very pleasurable visit. The staff is always so very friendly. Dr. Joe is an excellent doctor and friendly. My husband started seeing him years ago and now I do as well. Will be sad if he ever decides to retire.

I would not trust my eyes to anyone so willingly as to Dr. Thomas and his nurse. I always ful welcome and well taken care of. Dr. Thomas performed a successful cataract surgery as both of my eyes that restored my clear vision and has taken care of my eyes ever since. I'm very grateful to him and his entire staff.
