“Highly recommend this doctor! I am always very nervous prior to an eye check up and have had a series of mediocre doctors. This experience was fantastic, I felt like my concerns were heard and the doctor was very careful to make sure my prescription was adjusted accurately (my previous prescription was bad which I had figured based on the terrible experience I had at my last doctors office). She even took time out to explain the results of the eye photos that I opted to have taken - this was the first time it was explained to me so clearly! I walked out feeling so relieved and satisfied with the entire experience. Everyone was exceptionally friendly and laid back, so easy to talk to!”

About Dr. Katherine Mehalik

Katherine Mehalik, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown as a Presidential Scholar. Dr. Mehalik has trained in many practice settings, most notably Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the William Feinbloom Low Vision Center, receiving clinical honors at all her student externships. She also completed a primary care and ocular disease residency at the James H. Quillen VAMC in Mountain Home, Tennessee. Happy to be a part of the Bittel Vision Care team, Dr. Mehalik’s clinical interests include low vision and ocular disease, particularly in glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. When she is not treating patients, Dr. Mehalik enjoys reading, sewing, and spending time with her family and friends.

Was very happy with Dr. Mejalli. She was very professional, knowledgeable, personable and kind. When I arrived at the office, I was informed that you no longer take my Humana insurance. I was very upset that I never received any notification that this very important change happened. I have been a patient here for a very, very long time. I no longer have benefits for glasses or contacts under my insurance. Is there an explanation why a letter wasn't sent out informing your patients of this very important change? Also, under my Florida Blue insurance, I am entitled to an eye exam once a year. I told your employee about this and asked why you weren't accepting this insurance either to cover my exam. She was not very nice about it and a little huffy with me that she had to go to the front office to ask them about it. I was informed that you do not submit medical insurance unless there is a medical issue and not for routine visits. This is the first time in many, many years tha
I was always told what was next, whether any tests were needed or during the initial eye exam. Afterwards, I had the opportunity to ask any questiins & received answers to my inquiries.
Dr. Mehalik was kind and efficient. She listened to my concerns and provided me with a detailed review of my ocular health. From reception to checkout the staff members were friendly and efficient.

I didn't like the way the optician acted after I told her I had state insurance. She just didn't seem interested in helping me after that. I'm assuming because there wouldn't be a commission on cheaper glasses I was looking for. The doctor was great, but I won't be going back. The optical place I used for years treated everyone respectfully and I never felt lesser because of my insurance. The optician needs to realize that she has a job that makes a lot less than I do and I have a master's degree. I qualify for state insurance because I'm legally disabled. It has nothing to do with income level, so get off your high horse!
It was convenient, they were very nice, and very professional. Irena was fantastic helping with my glasses. If anything, I'd say would be great if some of the better glasses were a little less pricey but I'm sure that's out of their control. Thank GOD for insurance and warranties.
The staff is snobish especially in the optical dept. once they know you don’t want one of the $200 frames they lose all interest in servicing you.
