About Dr. Kathleen Ammel
Dr. Kathleen Ammel (owner/optometrist) was born and raised in Lawrence, KS. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Kansas before attending Indiana University School of Optometry, where she graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1995. After helping establish a multi-site private practice in Indianapolis and practicing for 11 years, she returned to Lawrence in August 2006 to be near family and enjoy the Kansas lifestyle. Purchasing a practice in Ottawa, KS, has proven to be an excellent choice, and the practice has thrived. With new staff, it has now expanded to Lawrence. Dr. Ammel is doing what she loves: helping patients utilize the latest technology to solve their visual needs.

The doctor was very thorough. The only issue was that I should have been told I would need a new prescription after cataract surgery so I wouldn't need glasses right now.

This was my first visit to Ammel optometry. I had to wait awhile to the dr. , but it was well worth the wait. I’ve never had such a though exam in my life and I’m retired. She was personable and very thorough. She found 2 tears in my left eye that have been there for a while. Never heard that from any other doctor before. I’m a permanent patient of doctor Ammel. Thank you so much. God bless.

Dr. Ammel and Naomi at the front desk were both very professional and friendly. I have social anxiety disorder, but I felt comfortable talking to Dr. Ammel. There was a decent selection of frames, but they weren’t really my style so I thought it was great that Dr. Ammel gave me my prescription and I didn’t even have to ask for it.
Overall, I had a good experience and will book with Dr. Ammel again for my next exam.
