About Dr. Kayla Karpuk

Dr. Karpuk is a service-minded optometrist who is eager to foster meaningful patient relationships and further clinical research. In 2018, Dr. Kayla Karpuk was Vance Thompson Vision’s first optometry resident. Now she is back as a board-certified optometrist with valuable experience from the prestigious Cleveland Eye Clinic, leading and further developing the Sioux Falls research program. Dr. Karpuk always knew she wanted to pursue a medical career. Optometry gave her the opportunity to connect with her patients and participate in constant advancements in vision technology and patient care. After completing her optometry residency at our Sioux Falls location, she joined our teams in Sioux Falls, SD and Fargo, ND for one year. Dr. Karpuk then moved to Cleveland, OH for her husband’s ophthalmology residency, where she spent the last three years as a cataract, refractive, glaucoma, and cornea specialist. Throughout her time in optometry school, Dr. Karpuk volunteered extensively with underserved youth in the Chicago public school system, providing free vision screenings. Her service work also took her to Guatemala on a mission trip with the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists. Personal & Hobbies Kayla is married to Dr. Tanner Ferguson, an ophthalmologist and fellow at Vance Thompson Vision. They spend their free time obsessing over their dog, Kramer, and trying new recipes.
