This was actually one of the best health care experiences I’ve had in San Francisco. I got in right at my appointment time, and dr. Banez spent probably 30-45 minutes with me directly answering my questions and discussing treatment. She was very nice, incredibly knowledgeable, and made the appointment seem easy. Highly recommend!
Mary Ann doctor herself was very rushed and didn't even ask for my symptoms. She basically came in asking whether I was there for eye strain and had not worn glasses before. I had to insist to let her know my symptoms. She did not even tell me whether I need to wear glasses when reading or all the time or even what the prescription meant. I had to call back and ask when to wear them. Her assistant was very nice and informative. Appointment started on time and they offered sun glasses as my eyes were dilated when I left.
Doctor Banez was really helpful and informative! I came in to get a second opinion for my eye condition, and she made me feel much better by digging into my eye usage behavior and try to figure out what might be the cause. Highly recommend!
She was great, kind and informative
It was my first visit to Dr. Banez - on time, straightforward, answered my questions, gave some good unsolicited tips on buying glasses online and both her assistant and Dr. Banez were nice and pleasant. Her assistant couldn't get a consistent read on my prescription using a machine so Dr. Banez came in instead to do it herself manually. The office is not fancy and equipment isn't sparkling new - that doesn't matter to me but a consideration if it does to you.
Great as always. Dr. Banez eye exam is thorough. Always listens to you well and gives wonderful recommendations.
Very helpful, great bedside manner and explained everything!!
This was one of my best encounters with a physician ever. The office was efficiently run with a quick check-in process and no delay with seeing Dr. Banez. Dr. Banez proceeded to explain each test she was about to perform, performed them and then immediately shared her observations. She then patiently and thoroughly answered my questions about the implications and recommended course of treatment. This all seems simple and unremarkable but I rarely find doctors willing to take the time to show such compassion and respect. Further, the few doctors who willing to fully engage with patients usually can't balance it with maintaining a punctual appointment schedule and it causes delays and long wait times. Dr. Banez and her office having figured it all out.
My visit was quite pleasant, however, the doctor seemed agitated by my questions, which made me feel uneasy. The screen display for the characters kept shaking due to the poor build of the office. So every time a door was opened or shut it was hard to focus. The doctor was kind enough to invite me back for a follow up, which will be included in the initial visit ($).
It was good. They were corteous and the intervention and treatment have helped me.
Awesome experience- both the assistsnt and the doctr were aqesome. Very efficient but also thorough
Great doctor! Caring and helped with my issue.
Dr. Banez is incredibly knowledgeable and professional. I have been to many eye doctors regarding my dry eye issue and I feel she provided the most accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan. I highly recommend Dr. Banez.
Mary is very nice as is her receptionist and assistant, however I did feel the evaluation was quick and am not sure I was convinced it was super thorough but I was also freaking out so maybe all was well and I just wanted more because I did not feel well.
I went in for a routine eye exam. My eye happened to be red from a subconjunctival hemorrhage, which is no big deal, but Dr. Banez fixated on the issue and asked me about it. When I responded to her questions, Dr. Banez told me that we're not supposed to talking about this because it was a medical issue and would not be covered by my insurance. She was very reluctant to talk to me after that. The nurse had already told me I'd have to pay for an additional medical bill out of pocket (on top of the eye exam) if I wanted to discuss the issue, and I said I just wanted a regular exam. It felt like Dr. Banez was trying to make me feel bad - in her perspective I should be paying more, but I didn't really have a medical problem and just wanted a check up. I would not recommend this practice; it feels like they care more about making profits than helping people. The nurse even said "doctors gotta get paid!" In the past, I've always been able to ask ophthalmologists any questions during my exam, and insurance was not a concern. Lastly, they dilated my eyes and then forgot to give me sunglasses or any type of eye protection. I was ushered out so quickly into the blinding sunlight in the middle of the afternoon. I couldn't even cross the street! This is not an experience I would wish for anyone else.
Dr. Banez was nice and very knowledgable. Insurance was properly covered and she sent my prescription to my pharmacy for me.
The visit was fine. Some of her equipment appears dated. It works but just aged.
Dr. Bañez is a calm and friendly expert who has, over a couple of years, helped with an eye issue (3x same thing). She has also given me a lot of knowledge as to what I can do to prevent another episode when it became apparent that the frequency of this same infection was atypical. Additionally, I've never felt rushed at her office and have always appreciated her commitment to being thorough. I'll never see anyone else as long as we're living in the same city and she's available~
I really appreciated that I got a call before my appointment verifying my insurance and co-pay. I arrived about 15 minutes early for my morning appointment and was prepped pretty much right away. Both Dr. Bañez and her assistant were very helpful and kind, would definitely recommend.
Been here multiple times for not just optometry but also ophthamology - very patient and knowledgeable doctor, super caring and attentive, highly recommended!
I had an eye sty and was initially worried about it as I feared an eye infection. Mary was able to diagnose it quickly and provide very understanding assurances that it was just a sty and could be treated with some antibiotics. I highly recommend her.
The core of the exam at Dr. Banez office lasts 1-2 min. It was by far the most superficial exam I have ever had. I'm quite shocked that such doctors are even allowed to practice medicine. Total waste of time and money.
Dr. Banez was great. She was very nice and carefully explained everything. She answered all my questions and I had a very clear idea of next steps for treatment when I left. Would certainly return for any additional eye issues.
Mary Ann was very knowledgable and offered a new treatment from other doctors I'm seeing that I'm hopeful will work. She was very polite and thorough. Her assistant, however, made me a little nervous. She didn't really seem confident in what she was doing when putting eye drops in or preparing me for my appointment.
She is very good!
Mary was excellent! Saw another eye doctor prior to Mary and was much happier with Mary
Dr. Banez was very helpful and informative. Her assistant on the other hand was not as great. She definitely seemed new and unsure of what should be going on and how to use the equipment.
Dr. Banez was extremely caring and patient. She answered all my questions and was lovely to chat with.
Shes excellent and she cares about her clients too
I thought Dr. Banez was totally fine, however did not care for her assistant. She started writing me a prescription for eyeglasses after verifying that I have 20/20 vision. Made me feel like they get paid on script writing, regardless of whether or not it's warranted.
Thanks for the short, comprehensive visit!
I had an infection in my eyelid. She gave details about the infection, also gave me a printed document for me to read with a lot more information. She was patient with me and answered all my questions!
I was early and they started with me early. Yay!
I loved seeing Dr. Banez. This was my first time in her office, and you can tell immediately that she cares and pays attention to details.
Very nice , informative knowledgeable and professional
Dr. Banez was very informative and helpful. She was very professional and thoroughly explained my options. I arrived on time to my appointment, and went immediately back to an exam room. Dr. Banez showed up a few minutes later. Very quick.
Excellent on all counts.
Dr Banez was very helpful and kind. When I needed to converse with her on the phone after my appointment she was quick to respond. I would highly recommend Dr Banez
Great! Explained everything very well and answered all my questions with ease and confidence!
Dr. Mary Ann Banez was patient, straightforward and very likable. Definitely will be going back!
she is great! takes the time to listen to everything you have to say, offers options for treatment, and is very nice. highly recommended.
She's great. Definitely going back!
She was great. Very accurate and thorough.
The whole experience was quite nice. The waiting time was very short and rest was quite easy and nice.
Office and tools seemed a bit outdated - felt rushed. Wouldn't go again.
Perfect mix of warm and caring and clinical knowledge. Staff very helpful too.
Dr. Banez did a fine job, she kept referring to my prescription though after I had informed her and her assistant that I have never worn glasses nor contacts. The assistant told me that I would need glasses while the Dr. said no....very conflicting
Dr. Banez is great. She takes the time to answer all your questions.
Dr. Banez was courteous, professional, and took time to explain everything that I had questions about. The only concern about her office is that her front desk person was also her eye exam assistant, so I had to wait a bit to be seen. However, it was still a relatively efficient visit.
Quickly seen, thorough, patient, and very knowledgable.
I am so happy with my visit! Dr.Banez and get assistant take a great deal of time to come up with the best solution for the patient. I had to order customized contact lenses for astigmatism and Dr. Banez did great measurement and adjustment that I had never had before.
Friendly, personable and attentive. Really couldn't have asked for a better visit.
very friendly, informative and didn't have to wait at all. i made an appt at 9pm the night before and got a confirmation call the next morning for my 11am appt. very professional and efficient.
Dr. Banez is a great listener, and very easy to talk to.
She's awesome! That's all you need to know.
Professional, knowledgeable, courteous, friendly and efficient. I made an appointment online on Monday morning 4am for 11:30 am that same morning because it was an emergency. My eyes were red from a metal sliver lodged in my eye. I was in and out within an hour and a half. Lets see how it heals. Only disappointment was my online appointment. Fortunately I called in the morning to confirm. Office had accessed zocdoc for my appointment though I had confirmation they had receive my request.
Would recommend Dr. Banez to anyone seeking an ophthalmologist.
It was fine.
Dr. Banez was warm, friendly and professional and took time to explain everything I needed to know. I recommend her highly.
I can't stand any kind of medical office, but Mary Ann Banez and her assistant were so lovely and kind! Very prompt and thorough.
Highly skilled and extremely polite. Today's appointment was a good experience all around.
Doctor Banez is an excellent ophthalmologist. She immediately made me feel comfortable and answered all my questions. She took the time to explain the various types of options for my focal issue and promptly got me the scripts.
Very smart and helpful
I had a great experience as a new patient with Dr. Banez. She is very knowledgeable and thorough in explaining options, and very friendly. Dr. Banez's staff is very professional and helpful too - very nice experience all in all. Highly recommend!
Very friendly. Took her time to examine in great detail.
Great doctor with great explanations
