Maureen Weldon Kamons O.D. is a 1985 graduate of Carlow University in Pittsburgh where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She then went on to obtain an advanced degree in vision science and a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1989 from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. Dr. Kamons has worked in the Pittsburgh area since being licensed in 1989 and started a solo practice in Regent Square in the summer of 1992. Her clinical internship training was concentrated in the area of contact lens fitting and research, pediatric vision analysis and diagnosis and management of ocular disease. A former board member and past president of the Western Pennsylvania Optometric Society, Dr. Kamons is an active member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. She has been involved with educational programming for Pennsylvania school nurses and practitioners and in 2002 was named "Optometrist Of The Year" by the Western Pennsylvania Optometric Society and was the proud recipient of the 2009 Carlow University Distinguished Alumnae award. She has served on several optometric advisory panels over the years. The Consumer's research Council of America has listed her as one of "America's Top Optometrists" since 2004 and Eyes On Regent Square was selected for "Best of Pittsburgh" for the last ten years by the U.S. Commerce Association. Since the 2019 acquisition of Eyes On Regent Square by AEG Vision, Dr. Kamons has enjoyed focusing all her professional energy on patient care. Dr. Kamons lives in Pittsburgh with her IT consultant husband Larry, and their dog Lexie. In her spare time she enjoys pickleball and canine agility training.
