She attended the University of Idaho, where she played collegiate soccer and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in broadcast media in 2013. She received her doctor of optometry degree at the University of California, Berkeley, in 2018 and followed that with a one-year residency in ocular disease in the Boston VA Healthcare System in 2019. Her clinical training included internships at the Crow/Northern Cheyenne Hospital (IHS) in Montana; the VA Central California Health Service in Fresno, California; and the Southern Arizona VA Health Center in Casa Grande, Arizona. She also provided care in multiple community clinics around the San Francisco Bay Area.
