Dr. Michael Drinnan M.D. has been practicing comprehensive ophthalmology in San Mateo for over 30 years. Presently, Dr. Drinnan is an adjunct clinical assistant professor in Ophthalmology at Stanford University Medical School. He teaches eye surgery to ophthalmology residents in training. He has been a long-time member and fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS), and a lifetime member of the American Medical Association (AMA). Dr. Drinnan organizes and heads the Eye Clinic at the Samaritan House Free Medical Clinic in San Mateo and performs pro bono eye surgery for needy patients there. Dr. Drinnan has a special interest in cataract and refractive surgery and is one of the busiest cataract surgeons on the Peninsula. He was one of the first surgeons to implant the new multifocal intraocular lens at Mills-Peninsula Hospital. He specializes in state-of-the-art small incision cataract surgery and other refractive surgeries to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. He provides care to patients with a wide variety of eye conditions including glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. In his spare time, Dr. Drinnan enjoys hiking, cycling, swimming, running, and traveling.
