About Dr. Michael Sandler

After graduating with a Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry, Dr. Michael E. Sandler decided to return to his home state of Florida. Upon his return, he was invited to join the staff at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami. While working alongside some of the world's most renowned eye surgeons, Dr. Sandler witnessed several extraordinary and rare eye conditions. These experiences inspired him to open his own optometry practice. Established in 1984, his practice specializes in contact lenses, pediatric optometry, and the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases-specialties that form the foundation of his work. In addition, Dr. Sandler expanded his focus to become an optometrist for athletes, particularly Major League Baseball players. His expertise led him to serve as the team eye doctor for the Montreal Expos (1987-1999), New York Mets (2003), and the Miami Marlins (1993-present). Athletic departments such as Florida Atlantic University football, Nova Southeastern University baseball, and USA Baseball have also sought Dr. Sandler's vision screening and treatment services. Currently, he is celebrating his 28th anniversary as the Miami Marlins' team eye doctor. With each Marlins World Series win, Dr. Sandler has received a World Series ring to commemorate his role with the team. He has also been honored by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers' Society (PBATS) for over twenty years of service in Major League Baseball. Dr. Sandler is board certified by both the Florida Board of Optometry and the Illinois Board of Optometry.
