Dr. Schaffer currently holds affiliated faculty positions at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Schaffer completed his undergraduate studies in biology at Brown University, where he was elected into the distinguished Sigma Xi scientific honor society. He obtained his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Schaffer served his medical internship at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Pennsylvania’s Scheie Eye Institute. He continued his education with a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where he was mentored by Drs. Ronald Burde and Thomas Slamovits. He also underwent additional training in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Schaffer is a proud member of many professional associations, including the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association and the Florida Society of Ophthalmology. Dr. Schaffer was raised in Armonk, New York. He is married with three children. When not seeing patients, he may be found riding his bicycle or playing the guitar. He is also an avid reader.
