About Dr. Miguel Rodriguez
Dr. Miguel Rodriguez is a certified, licensed Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. As a Texas native, he attended the University of Texas San Antonio where he obtained his BS in Biology with honors. Dr. Rodriguez then attended the University of Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry where he obtained his Doctorate in Optometry. Throughout his educational studies and training, he maintained employment in the health care sector to include a tenure with the US Department of Veteran Affairs and various clinics, culminating in over 15 years of providing patient care. Dr. Rodriguez has obtained extensive training in his special interests of dry eye, ocular disease, contact lens, myopia control, and refractive surgery. He has completed externships in Fort Worth and San Antonio, Texas providing eye care to the underserved populations. Currently, he is an Optometrist at a MyEyeDr clinic in New Braunfels, Texas, where he utilizes state of the art equipment to provide primary eye care to children and adults alike. Dr. Rodriguez is an advocate of lifelong learning who actively participates in community outreach programs and maintains membership with the Texas Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. In his spare time, Dr. Rodriguez enjoys spending time outdoors, reading, and in the company of family.

I booked an appointment because their profile on Zocdoc said that they took my insurance. I got to the office early and was told at check-in that my insurance is no longer accepted there. They tried to sell me on payment plans, but I wasn’t about to pay for something that should have been covered by my insurance, so I left before the appointment even started and booked an appointment elsewhere.
It may be worth calling ahead to confirm that they actually take your insurance before booking an appointment.

Great, friendly staff and the office was easy to find. I really appreciated how Dr. Rodriguez explained my scan and showed me examples of what it would look like if I had certain conditions like glaucoma or AMD.

While I highly recommend the medical staff for being helpful and thorough, the front-of-house service was a massive letdown. It was clear that the man at the payment desk only valued me as a customer if I was buying glasses. As soon as I confirmed I was only paying for the exam, his attitude turned cold and visibly frustrated. He avoided eye contact and ended the transaction by picking up a phone call and turning his back to me mid-departure. This lack of basic courtesy is unacceptable in a professional setting. If you aren’t planning on buying frames, be prepared to be treated like an inconvenience. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere from now on.
