About Dr. Monique Barbour
I am a native of Washington, D.C., where I grew up within walking distance of Capitol Hill. I left home to attend Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina, where I received my bachelor's degree in Pre-Medicine. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., graduating with honors. I completed a residency in Ophthalmology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in Bronx, N.Y.
After residency, I completed a Glaucoma fellowship at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and a Refractive Surgery fellowship at the world-renowned Instituto de Clínica Barraquer in Bogotá, Colombia. I have been the medical director of Clear Vue Laser Eye Center, a comfortable, state-of-the-art vision care center, for the past 15 years. As a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, I am dedicated to providing the highest quality of ophthalmic care.
I have performed thousands of microsurgical procedures, including “No Stitch” cataract surgery and pterygium surgery. Dry eye syndrome is managed very aggressively under my care and may include the use of Omega-3s or Restasis. I am well trained and equipped to diagnose and treat all kinds of patients, including diabetics. I have both a fundus camera and an OCT in the office. In addition to the above, I provide cosmetic and aesthetic services, including treatment with BOTOX, RESTYLANE, and JUVÉDERM injections for facial and eyelid rejuvenation. I also perform eyelid lift surgery to improve eyelid position.
I can be urgently consulted for ocular emergencies and injuries. Treating patients of all ages, I make an effort to connect with them through the many languages I speak. Even though others consider me trilingual (sí, hablo español), I am always learning.
