About Dr. Nekima Williams

Dr. Nekima Williams is the Director of Externships and Residencies and an Associate Professor for the Rocky Mountain University Optometry Program. Dr. Williams’ teaching responsibilities include instructor for Family Medicine, Advanced Clinical Experience and precepting in Primary Care and Specialty Contact Lens clinics. She lectures in the first and 3rd year classes and brings a vast array of clinical experience to the university. Annually she is actively participating in international mission trips in Mexico, the Philippines and Africa. She is the faculty advisor for the RMU SVOSH chapter. Her Doctor of Optometry degree was earned from the University of Houston College of Optometry in Houston, TX. Upon graduating, she had been in her own private practice in Texas focusing mainly on primary care, anterior segment disorders and specialty contact lens care. She has also worked in academia as a Clinical Dean and Externship Director. She is on the Board of Trustees for the Texas Optometric Association and is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Utah Optometric Association. She spends her spare time watching basketball and doing outdoor activities with her husband, daughter and two dogs.
