About Dr. Richard Manganiello
Dr. Richard J. Manganiello is a practicing ophthalmologist in South Windsor, CT. The practice was founded by his older brother, Michael Manganiello, also an ophthalmologist, in 1991. Dr. Richard Manganiello joined the practice in 1996 and has practiced here ever since. His brother retired in 2001.
Prior to coming to Connecticut, Dr. Manganiello practiced internal medicine focusing on, among other areas, infectious diseases. He served as an attending at both NYU Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital. He took care of HIV/AIDS patients at the height of the crisis at New York Y University Medical Center and the New York State prison population at Bellevue Hospital. His work in New York City prepared him to diagnose and treat a vast array of medical issues for diverse patient populations. He has always maintained his sense of medical excellence and compassion for all of his patients.
While his work in internal medicine was very meaningful, he subsequently pursued ophthalmology and has practiced this discipline since 1996. He earned his medical degrees from the State University of New York and completed an internship at New York University Medical Center. He completed two residencies, one in internal medicine at New York University Medical Center and the other in ophthalmology at the State University of New York.
Dr. Manganiello is board certified in two medical disciplines; internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the medical staff of Eastern Connecticut Health Network and performs surgery at several hospitals and surgery centers.

I was on time for my appointment but dr office told they don't have my appointment data,as they don't authorize zocdoc to book any new patient appointments.
Office did not contact me prior to my appointment as they were not aware of zocdoc appointments.
Very worst experience.

I am really very unhappy with the entire process.
1. booking on zocdoc for an appointment was very easy, I needed to see an ophthalmologist after being in the hospital for 2 weeks after serious diabetic issues. The week of my appointment which was booked 2 months earlier, I received a cancellation call due to a power outage. then I rebooked for 3.5 months later and the wee of my appointment I received another cancellation call. So having said all that I am not happy at all and 6 months later still have not seen the Dr. I need badly to help me.

I had a sudden (and scary) issue with my eyes over the weekend. I spoke to my primary care doctor who told me to see my eye doctor/ophthalmologist asap. I haven't had a regular eye doctor in several years since my long time doc had retired. I found Dr Manganiello online Sunday night thru ZocDoc, (I had never used ZocDoc before). I was able to set an appointment for the very next morning. My appointment went very smooth and my eye is on the way to recovery. And I would say that I now have a new eye doctor. Thank you very much!

My experience with Dr. Manganello and his staff was excellent. I was greeted immediately and saw the Doctor in a timely manner.
Dr. Manganello explained my issue to me and gave many suggestions as to prevention of my problem. I also appreciated that I was able to get an appointment within one day .

After I scheduled an appointment on ZOCDOCs and arrived at the office, I was surprised to find out they had no idea who I was or that I had scheduled an appointment. They were kind enough to squeeze me in. I did wait more than I would normally like, but was happy to be seen. The doctor was fabulous, and his staff were just as wonderful.

This was a really great way to book an appointment and the whole experience when I got there was fantastic. This is not your “big box” doctor’s office. The doctor is very caring, spent time with me and I never felt rushed. Dr. Manganiello went to Fordham where I went to school so I felt even more like I went to the right doctor. Lol.

This was an excellent experience. The office staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful in answering questions about the forms. Dr. Manganiello took time to explain thoroughly the images of my eyes and what possible conditions could develop. There was no feeling of being rushed. I would recommend Dr. Manganiello without reservation.

I waited for over an hour just to be seen by a medical assistant. Then another 30 minutes to see the doctor. Neither time did anyone come to check on me and let me know about how much longer it would be. I understand offices can get busy but to me this seems like basic customer service.
I was also there a few weeks prior for a check up appointment (this was for a special case, but I still made an appointment the day before), and yet they had none of the records of that appointment. I felt invalidated by the MA and the doctor by basically being told there was no reason I should be having symptoms (and yet, I still was). He didn’t hear any of my concerns or comments about my own eye health or recent experiences, instead he seemingly had a plan in mind and didn’t alter it based on my own awareness of my symptoms. I will not be returning.

Friendly and pleasant office personnel. They were running late because of emergencies but they apologized and kept me informed. Dr. Maganello explained my diagnosis in clear easy to understand language. I would definitely recommend this practice and I already have another follow up appointment

Dr. Manganiello was great and caring. I came for a routine check up but mentioned my eyes tend to be dry and irritated throughout the day. He discovered I have an eye condition that causes this and sent me out with two different kinds of drops. Wait time was a little longer than I would have liked (was in the office from 4:00-5:40), but Dr. Manganiello apologized and let me know he appreciated me waiting, which went a long way! Glad to have a great eye doctor here in CT now!
