About Dr. Robert Friedman

Robert Friedman is a well-recognized board-certified ophthalmologist engaged in solo practice for the past two decades. He is involved in resident training and has been at the cutting edge of medical and surgical advances in Ophthalmology for his entire career.
Dr. Friedman attended Columbia University, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Lenox Hill Hospital and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. He has appointments at Mount Sinai Medical Center, the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital, and is on staff at the Retina Ambulatory Surgery Center.
Dr. Friedman has pioneered techniques in cataract surgery that are widely used today and that he actively teaches to residents and colleagues. He is an expert in the use of 'premium' lenses that can reduce, and often eliminate, the patient's dependency on glasses. These 'presbyopia-reducing' lenses can frequently be inserted at the time of cataract surgery to transform a cataract patient into a person who no longer relies on spectacles.
Dr. Friedman completed a medical and surgical fellowship in Diseases of the Retina and routinely performs laser photocoagulation and surgery to repair retinal detachments, macular holes, macular puckers and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Friedman is committed to delivering personalized and respectful healthcare to each of his patients. Towards this end, he maintains a fee-for-service practice that is independent of the constraints of insurance carriers.

Made appt around 5am on zocdoc for same day with horrible conjunctivitis I've never had in my life that apparently was tied to a cold. The front reception checked me in right away and I was seen in less then 30 min. Dr. Friedman was quick and to the point but courteous and even followed up with me the next day. He genuinely seemed concerned by how upset I was as I mentioned I had other unrelated eye issues and was nervous at what it would do to me. The drops prescribed alleviated symptoms gradually but I felt better within a few hours. Back to normal within a week. Highly recommend this Dr. Also, the zocdoc Ai profile pic doesnt do him justice either, he looks better in person. Thank you to him and his staff!

I was away from home and needed to be seen by an ophthalmologist in a short time window. Though I wasn’t an established patient, Dr. Friedman’s office kindly accommodated me. His office was comfortable, his staff friendly and professional, and Dr. Friedman himself was warm, knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and committed to assessing and explaining my conditions and treatment options. I never once felt rushed, and left with a plan in place, and an open invitation to return if I needed to in the future. Despite being a five-hour drive away, I’d be happy to become a regular patient at this practice. Highly recommend.

Excellent! Dr. Friedman was knowledgeable, efficient and clear. Detailed explanations. Took his time. Office equipment seemed technologically up to date. One drawback is that the office is very limited in the accepted insurances. Would highly recommend.

This was eye doctor experience I have had in my life. I had chemical burn to both eyes and was seen with 2 hours having never been to the office. The entire staff was amazing! Dr Friedman was great at explaining what I had done and putting me at ease and calming me down. I live 3 hours away and will go back potentially for yearly care when in town. I would give 10 stars if that was an option.

His staff was friendly and helpful. They were kind enough to fit me in on short notice.?
I was impressed by one piece of testing equipment that allowed the same results as dilation without having to be chemically dilated.
The waiting area is comfortable and beautifully appointed.
I would definitely recommend him.
