About Dr. Robert Luckey Jr.

Dr. Robert E. Luckey is a board-certified optometric physician. He is a proud graduate of Nova Southeastern University (Class of 2002) and has practiced in both a large ophthalmology practice and private optometry practice. Dr. Luckey's experience includes two externships in ocular disease at large ophthalmology practices. Dr. Luckey is an active member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), the Florida Optometric Association (FOA), and the former president of the Hillsborough Society of Optometrists (HSO). Dr. Luckey is married and has two wonderful children. He enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, biking (bikes and motorcycles), kayaking, and traveling. Before Dr. Luckey's optometric physician career, he served in the U.S. Military for fourteen years. He began his military career as a Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Warfare Specialist and continued in his career as a combat/flight medic.

I arrived early for the appointment to fill out paperwork. I told them from the beginning I was nervous. The staff was pleasant and friendly but too much so. They spent a lot of time talking about their personal lives, even asking me for advice after I mentioned I am a healthcare worker. I was instructed to look at different screens without any explanations. It was my first visit to an eye doctor in 15 years. I’m not confident the office staff was knowledgeable about the procedures to explain them to me. During the exam, the Dr sneezed in my face. After, he input his findings into the computer without even telling me what his diagnosis was. After he printed out my report I was walked out to the eyeglass showroom to pick out a pair of glasses for which I wasn’t aware I needed. The team spent a lot of time with me choosing the right pair which is nice but at the end of the day I am their patient and feel no more knowledgeable about my eyesight than when I arrived today
