“It took me 1 year to find Dr. G. She is very energetic and was asking questions while telling her assistant what to order like tests or meds. She is very thorough and warm. She took her time and is a good listener. We had to wait and it took us 45mn to drive to her office but it was all worth it. Finally a doctor who cares!! She explained clearly where we go from there and it really helps. I just wish I found her sooner and that my husband would have benefited from her care. I highly recommend! Thank you Dr. G.”

“Dr G. was extremely friendly, informative, through and reassuring that the necessary battery of tests would be ordered. It has been 2 1/2 years since my stroke and I had never followed up with a neurologist but have been feeling some signs such my arm falling asleep etc and wanted to consult a doctor. I called a number of neurologist to inquire if they were taking new patients and every other one said it would 6 months or more. Upon leaving from my appointment I know I am in good care. Also, all the staff from the front desk staff to Dr G. assistance were extremely friendly and helpful. My wife, who went me agreed when we left that I was in the right place. I would highly recommend Dr. G. ”

About Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane
Ruwani Gunawardane, M.D., is board certified in neurology. She specializes in multiple sclerosis, headache, and other complex neurological disorders. She has special training in neurosonology—the study of imaging tests crucial in interpreting and diagnosing cerebrovascular disease. Dr. Gunawardane earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from St. George's University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies, graduating in 1990 as the class leader for clinical excellence and receiving the Chancellor Charles R. Modica Award. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Coney Island Hospital in New York, followed by neurology training and a fellowship in cerebrovascular disease and stroke at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
At the University of Maryland, she was an assistant professor of neurology for seven years before entering private practice in 2006. She remained a visiting professor there until 2018. Dr. Gunawardane was one of the founding members of the Brain Attack team, a program designed to rapidly assess and treat stroke patients with clot-dissolving drugs to prevent death and disability. She has conducted various stroke research studies and co-authored numerous articles in professional journals. Dr. Gunawardane is a member of the American Academy of Neurology.
